On my recent trip to Kamloops I stopped at Harper’s Trail, Monte Creek Ranch, and Privato Vineyard and Winery. At Privato I was able to spend a few quick minutes to try the latest releases of wines with their host Kristin. I tasted through several of their wines with Kristin last August.
This time I tasted their 2019 Rose, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, and Bolle Rosa sparkling, their Grand Reserve Pinot Noir 2015, and their Merlot 2017. These notes are shorter than my usual notes as I only had a few minutes to try the wines and not over 2-3 days as I do from home. Most of these wines were already opened so had some decant time.
My Brief Tasting Notes
Privato Rose 2019 (BC $20.99) – Light red fruit nose. Dry with a medium body and medium acidity. Red fruit flavour. Medium fine tannins. An easy sipper.
Privato Gewurztraminer 2019 (BC $18.99) – Light sweet spice, lychee, and green fruit nose. Off-dry to dry. It has a lighter mouthfeel. Light green fruit flavour along with sweet spices.
Privato Pinot Gris 2019 (BC $19.99) – Grapefruit aroma. Medium body, round, with a mineral touch and a nice texture. Citrus and stonefruit flavours. Light fruity flavours. Elegant.
Privato Grand Reserve Pinot Noir 2015 (BC $54.99) – The grapes for this Pinot come from Lake country, and this wine won a Double Gold at the All Canadians last year. This wine is a lighter translucent garnet colour. Lots of cedar, red fruit and sweet spice aromas. These aromas continue to the palate, plus you can add red cherries and candied red cherries. The wine is soft and round with fine tannins. Light cedar and red fruit finish. Also a touch of dill. I enjoyed this wine so much, I bought a bottle. –
Privato Merlot 2017 (BC $37.99) – this is the first time that Privato has ventured out of Pinot Noir to another red grape. These grapes were sourced from the Black Sage Bench. The wine has a deeper, clear garnet colour; a dark core. It has a light intensity nose showing red cherries and sweet spices. It has a light to medium body, semi-round, medium acidity and soft light fine tannins. Red fruits, red cherries and plum flavours. Oak and some pepperiness on the finish. –
Privato Bolle Rosa 2019 (BC $22.99) – this is their first attempt at a sparkling wine and is only available to their Club members. It is a blend of Merlot and Gewurztraminer. It has a very light pink colour. Sweet spices, lychee, and citrus aromas. It is off-dry with higher acidity and medium sized bubble. Bright red fruit, lychee, and pith on the palate. Light tannins.
