Two Sparkling Wines from BC’s Blue Mountain Vineyard and Cellars for the HolidaysPR SAMPLE

It will soon be New Year’s eve and many of us will open a bottle of sparkling wine.  I have two bottles of sparkling wine from BC’s Blue Mountain Vineyard and Cellars for you to consider.  I received their Blue Mountain Vineyard and Cellars Gold Label Brut 2022 and their Blue Mountain Vineyard and Cellars Brut Rosé R.D. 2022.  R.D. means recently disgorged.  Both wines are made Methode Traditionelle.  Here are my tasting notes for you.

My Wine Tasting Notes

Blue Mountain Vineyard and Cellars Gold Label Brut, 2022 (BC $28 on winery website)

Made with 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay grapes.  Winery notes, “Grapes are all whole cluster pressed and each variety is fermented separately. After fermentation the wines are blended and re-inoculated with yeast and bottled to go through secondary fermentation. Post secondary fermentation, the wine is left to age sur-lie for 24 – 36 months.  The wine is disgorged and finished dry in the classic Brut style then left for approximately 6 to 12 months prior to release.”

Appearance:  A clear, medium intensity pear skin colour.  Medium sized bubbles in the glass.
Nose:  Medium intensity, fresh aromas of pears, apples, and brioche.
Palate: This wine is dry, medium-plus body with medium-sized creamy, mouth filling bubbles.  Apples, pears, apple skin and some grape stem bitterness on the palate.
Finish:  Medium-plus length, finishing with pears and apples, plus creamy bubbles to the finish, and some grape stem bitterness.

Rating: ****.******

Blue Mountain Vineyard and Cellars Brut Rosé R.D. 2022 (BC $35 on winery website)

A blend of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay grapes. Winery notes, “The grapes are all whole cluster pressed and each variety is fermented separately.  After the first fermentation the wines are blended and re-inoculated with yeast and bottled.  The wine will then go through secondary fermentation in the bottle. Post secondary fermentation, wine is left to age sur-lie for 27 months. – The wine was disgorged in March 2025 and finished with a higher dosage than the Brut “Gold Label”, but still to the customary brut style. The wine is left for approximately 7 months prior to release.”

Appearance: Clear, deep, amber colour.
Nose:  Medium intensity aromas of crisp apple and lighter red fruits.
Palate:  Dry, medium-plus body with a fuller mouthfeel.  Medium sized creamy bubbles fill your mouth.  Medium-plus to pronounced flavours of apple, with lesser amounts of red fruits and grape stem.
Finish:  Medium length, finishing with the apple, red fruits, and grape stem flavours.

Rating: ****.*

I enjoyed both these wines with a variety of cheeses, salami, spinach in filo pastry, olives, and other nibbles.  Two versatile wines.
