A Visit to Moon Curser Vineyards in Osoyoos

Moon Curser Vineyards in the south Okanagan, Osoyoos specifically, is well-known for their big red wines.  I recently visited the winery and tried four red wines and one white wine.  Moon Curser was unfortunately affected by the 2024 winter cold snap, so lost some of their vines.  As such, they brought in some grapes from Washington state to help make their 2024 wines.  The Riesling below is the one WA state-based wine. Their other WA-based wine is a 2024 Rosé, but I did not have a chance to try it.  To let their customers know that the grapes come from across the border, they made a new label with “Confiscated” written on it.

Let me tell you about the wines I tasted.

My Wine Tasting Notes

Moon Curser Vineyards Confiscated Riesling 2024 (BC $25.99) – a deeper lemon colour.  Nice fresh aromas of mandarin orange and stone fruits.  Medium-minus body, dry with a lean mouthfeel.  Medium acidity leaves a little acidic prickle on your tongue.  Tart stone fruits and a hint of citrus on the palate.  Mediu-plus length with a touch of bitterness on the finish. ****o****.*

Moon Curser Vineyards Syrah 2022 (BC $34.99) – A clear, deeper garnet colour.  Medium intensity juicy berries, cherries and hints of sweet spices and oak.  Teardrops on the side of the glass after swirling.  Dry, medium body witha soft, lean mouthfeel.  Some butteriness on the mouthfeel.  Ripe black fruit flavours with pepperiness toward the finish.  Medium acidity and medium drying tannins.  Medium to medium-plus length. ****o****.*

Moon Curser Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 (BC $46.99) – A medium intensity, clear garnet colour.  Light but fresh black fruit aromas along with sweet spices and oak.  Light body dry, with a soft, smooth, buttery mouthfeel.  Berry fruit flavours with a touch of candied cherries on the finish.  Medium acidity and soft tannins.  Medium length. ****o****.*

Moon Curser Vineyards Malbec 2022 (BC $38.99) – Medium garnet in the glass. Light, meaty aromas along with berry fruits.  This wine is dry, medium body with a smooth, round, soft mouthfeel.Medium acidity and soft tannins.  Juicy berry flavours.  Medium length. ****o****.*

Moon Curser Vineyards Dead of Night 2022 (BC $46.99) – This wine is a blend of 50% Syrah and 50% Tannat, and may be the last ever of this blend. Why?  They are the only winery growing the Tannat grape in BC and the 2024 winter cold snap killed all their Tannat vines.  So if you want to try this wine, buy it now.  It has a medium-minus garnet colour.  Very light red fruit aromas along with a touch of sweet spices.  Dry, medium-minus body with a smooth, soft mouthfeel.  Light berry fruit flavours along with a touch of bitterness toward the finish. ****o
