Try Township 7 Interlude Pinot Noir and Interlude Select Chardonnay 2024PR SAMPLE

Here are my last two Interlude wines from Township 7 Vineyards & Winery.  In case you don’t remember, Interlude, is their wines, crafted in BC, but coming from grapes outside the province, due to our cold winter snap that killed most grape vines in the Okanagan.  The first wine, their Township 7 Vineyards & Winery Interlude Pinot Noir 2024, is made with grapes from the Russian River Valley, CA, well-known for cool-climate Pinot Noir.  Their Township 7 Vineyards & Winery Interlude Select Chardonnay 2024, comes from vineyards in Washington and California.  Here are my tasting notes for these two wines.

My Wine Tasting Notes

Township 7 Vineyards & Winery Interlude Pinot Noir 2024 (BC $43.97)

Winemaker’s notes, “This single-vineyard Pinot Noir hails from the renowned Russian River Valley in Sonoma, California, planted to clones 777, 667, and 115. The vineyard’s sandy loam soils, interlaced with shale, volcanic ash, and rocky deposits, provide excellent drainage and retain warmth, contributing to optimal ripening and concentration. Crafted to highlight its vibrant fruit purity, the wine was fermented in stainless steel to preserve freshness and aromatic intensity, then aged for 12 months in 500L French oak puncheons to achieve balance and finesse without overwhelming the wine’s delicate structure.”

Appearance:  A clear, medium-plus intensity garnet colour.  Constant translucent colour to the core.
Nose:  Medium-minus intensity aromas of red fruit, plums, red cherries, and hints of toast and floral.  Lighter aromas after decanting.
Palate:  Dry, medium-minus body with a smooth, soft mouthfeel.  Not mouth filling.  Light tannins that get stronger toward the finish.  Medium acidity.  Flavours of red fruit, red cherries, plums and touches of oak, sweet spice, and floral.  There is also a candied red cherry flavour that comes out toward the finish.  A more lean mouthfeel with stronger tannins and more notice amount of oak.  Fruit flavours stay the same.
Finish:  Medium to medium-plus length, finish with red cherry flavour and medium intensity tannins.  Stronger, drying tannins on the finish along with noticeable oak flavour.

Decanting brings out the tannins and the leaner mouthfeel, so I prefer the softer, lighter version without decanting.  This wine should age nicely over 5 years.

Township 7 Vineyards & Winery Interlude Select Chardonnay 2024 (BC $36.97)

Winemaker’s notes, “This Chardonnay was crafted from premium fruit sourced from two renowned U.S. vineyards — one perched above Lake Chelan in Washington State and the other from the acclaimed Russian River Valley in Sonoma, California. The wine was fermented in 100% French oak barrels, with 12% new oak and 80% wild fermentation, contributing to its layered complexity and subtle oak integration. It spent nearly 12 months on the lees, with weekly bâtonnage to build depth, creaminess, and texture. The wine underwent full malolactic fermentation, softening the acidity and enhancing its rich, rounded mouthfeel.”  Clos Chevalle, Chelan, WA  and Four Palms, Sonoma, CA vineyards.

Appearance:  A clear, bright, deep lemon-gold colour in the glass.
Nose:  Medium-plus to pronounced, ripe aromas of pineapple, toast, dried pineapple and butterscotch.  No change to the aromas after decanting.
Palate:  This wine is dry, medium-plus body with a thicker, smooth, creamy mouthfeel.  Pronounced flavours of ripe pineapple, together with a touch of butterscotch. Some tried pineapple as well.  A hint of nutmeg appears with some air time in the glass.  The wine has medium to medium-plus acidity and there is some volatile acidity to start, but it burns off soon, leaving luscious flavours. The wine feel thick and soft after decanting along with the ripe pineapple, sweet spice, oak, and butterscotch flavours.  The light acidic prickle disappeared which was not an issue.  The hint of volatile acidity also was gone which made the wine smoother and thicker feeling.
Finish:  A long length finishing with ripe pineapple, butterscotch, nutmeg (with air) and some pepperiness at the very end. No change to the flavours. The touch of volatile acidity was also gone leaving you a smooth finish.

A quality oaked Chardonnay with ripe pineapple, toast, and butterscotch aromas and flavours.  Just a short decant to get the volatile acidity to go away is all that is needed to enjoy this wine.
