The history of Rhône Valley wines dates back to ancient times, with evidence of winemaking in the region dating back to at least 600 BC. The Romans further developed viticulture in the area; over the centuries, the region’s wines gained renown for their quality.  Rhône Valley wines remain popular due to their diverse range of styles, from bold and spicy to elegant and complex. Northern Rhône red wines are renowned for their deep, peppery flavours with notes of dark fruits and savoury spices, while the whites exhibit floral aromas, accompanied by stone fruit flavours and a distinct minerality. In the Southern Rhône, (Châteauneuf-du-Pape) red wines showcase ripe berry flavours, hints of herbs, and a characteristic warmth. The white wines offer a blend of citrus, tropical fruits, and delicate floral nuances. Take this fun 5-question quiz to see how well you know Rhône Valley wines.
