Today I have two aromatic white wines to tell you about from BC’s Blasted Church Vineyards. I tasted their Blasted Church Vineyards Renaissance Series Sauvignon Blanc 2025 and Blasted Church Vineyards Renaissance Series Viognier 2025. These wines come from our latest, fantastic 2025 harvest. It is nice to see our wineries doing so well this vintage after the problems with the previous two vintages caused by wintery weather. The “Renaissance Series” labels feature figures from classical paintings, plucked from their holy surroundings and placed into modern-day scenarios. Let me tell you about these two wines.
My Wine Tasting Notes
Blasted Church Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc 2025 (BC $28)
The notes indicate that this is a Sauvignon Blanc – Semillon blend, but I cannot find the percentages of each grape. I assume it’s mostly Sauvignon Blanc with Semillon being 5% or less.
Winemaker’s notes, “This wine blends Sauvignon Blanc from our Skaha Bench estate vineyard and Road 1 Vineyard in West Oliver with Semillon from the Aspen Vineyard north of Osoyoos. Harvest began September 12 on the estate, followed by Road 1 on September 15, and Aspen Vineyard on September 30.
Winemaking combined whole cluster pressing, destemmed fruit, and a short cold soak on select lots to build texture and aromatic complexity, creating a diverse range of components for the final blend. Following pressing, the Sauvignon Blanc was fermented and aged in a mix of stainless steel and French oak, while the Semillon was entirely barrel fermented and aged in French oak. After several months, the blend was assembled and returned to tank and barrel for further aging before bottling.”
Appearance: A bright but pale straw colour in the glass.
Nose: Light aromas of green fruit and citrus to start that evolve in the glass to sweeter stone fruit aromas. I also pick up jalapeno peppers, oranges, and a touch of honey. Mostly stone fruit aromas after decanting, plus a hint of floral.
Palate: Dry, medium body with a thicker, but lean mouthfeel. Bright, high acidity. Salty minerality. Pronounced flavours of green and citrus fruit, and jalapeño peppers, with a touch of grape stem and then crisp apple toward the finish. A hint of stone fruit flavours with swirling. The body bumps up to medium-plus after decanting. Still bright flavours. Green fruit, citrus, and apple, but no jalapeño pepper flavours.
Finish: Medium-plus length finish with a lighter body. Green and citrus fruit, grape stem, and a touch of stone fruit with air. Medium body on the finish after decanting. Mostly green fruit and citrus, with some grape stem bitterness.
A very flavourful and aromatic Sauvignon Blanc. No major changes after decanting, so open and enjoy.

The Blasted Church Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc 2025 shows a bright pale straw colour with aromas of green fruit and citrus that open into stone fruits, with orange, jalapeño pepper, and a touch of honey. Floral notes emerging after decanting. The palate is dry and medium-bodied with a lean yet textured mouthfeel, vibrant acidity, and salty minerality, offering green fruit, citrus, crisp apple, jalapeño, and subtle grape stem flavours, while air removes the jalapeño flavour and adds a little more weight. It finishes medium-plus in length with lingering green fruit, citrus, hints of stone fruit, and a light grape stem bitterness.

Blasted Church Vineyards Viognier 2025 (BC $28)
Primarly Viognier with some Marsanne blended in. I did not find information on the blend percentages.
Winemaker’s notes, “Our 2025 Viognier combines fruit from our estate vineyard on the Skaha Bench (Viognier) and the Red Brick Vineyard (Viognier and Marsanne) located on the east bench of Osoyoos. Each block of fruit was hand-harvested at its ideal balance of sugar, acid, and phenolic ripeness and were handled separately until blending in the months following harvest.
In the cellar, some of the lots were destemmed and given a few hours of skin contact to enhance the aromatic intensity and mouthfeel of the wine, while other lots were whole-cluster pressed to preserve the bright fruit profile and acidity. After settling in tank, the juices were racked to a mix of French oak barrels for fermentation and aging. After a few months in barrel, the cellar team decided on the final blend, racked the wines to tank to assemble the blend, and put the wine back to barrel for a few more months of aging ahead of bottling.”
Appearance: Clear, bright, medium-minus intensity lemon colour.
Nose: Medium intensity aromas of ripe stone fruits along with grape stem to start, then with swirling you get limes, oranges, and some tropical fruit aromas. Mostly stone fruit aromas after decanting. You can add a touch of nutmeg. No tropical fruit aromas.
Palate: This wine is dry, medium-plus body with a soft, smooth mouthfeel. A mix of tropical fruit and stone fruit flavours plus some grape stem. Medium-plus acidity leaves a light acidic prickle in your mouth. You get more stone fruit flavours than tropical fruit flavours after decanting, plus a touch of lime rind and grape stem.
Finish: Medium-plus to long length, finishing with tropical fruit and stone fruit flavours, and stronger grape stem bitterness. A little peppery on the finish. Stone fruit flavours and grape stem bitterness on the finish after decanting.
Rich and ripe aromas and flavours. No need to decant. Decanting just brings out the stone fruit aromas and flavours.

The Blasted Church Vineyards Viognier 2025 shows a bright lemon colour with aromas of ripe stone fruit to start that evolve with hints of lime, orange, and tropical fruit, settling into a more stone fruit-driven profile with a touch of nutmeg after decanting. The palate is dry and medium-plus in body with a soft, smooth texture, offering tropical and stone fruit flavours supported by fresh acidity and subtle grape stem bitterness, while decanting moves toward more stone fruit with hints of lime rind. It finishes medium-plus to long with lingering stone fruit (primarily), tropical fruit, grape stem bitterness, and a touch of pepperiness.
Where Can I Buy These Wines?
Both wines can be ordered online from the Blasted Church website:
Everything Wine has the Sauvignon Blanc available, but I am not sure if it is the 2025 vintage. The Viognier is from their Washington State grapes.
