If you have not heard of After 93 Vineyards & Estate Winery, you are not alone. It was also new to me. But, it is owned by the same family that operates Bordertown Vineyards & Estate Winery in Osoyoos, BC. In 1993, the Gill family embarked on a journey to Canada with the aspiration of forging a brighter future. In 2007, the Gill family purchased their first vineyard. They embrace sustainability, promoting biodiversity in the vineyard, avoiding synthetic chemicals and focusing on using organic matter. Then in 2015 the family opened their first winery, Bordertown Vineyards & Estate Winery.
After 93 Vineyards & Estate Winery is their second label. I received two Frizzante wines to review. I think these are the first releases for them from their After 93 label.
My Wine Tasting Notes
After 93 Vineyards & Estate Winery Moscato Frizzante 2023 (BC $30) – Many wines made with the Moscato grape, are off-dry to sweet, but this wine is pleasantly dry. It has a clear, medium-minus intensity straw colour. The bubbles in the bottle were very effusive, as the mousse came right out the top of the bottle as soon as I removed the cork. I did not shake the bottle at all, so there was no agitation on my part.
The wine has pronounced aromas of sage, oranges, and lime skin to start, but if you wait a while, then stone fruit aromas come into play. After my initial tasting, I recorked the bottle, put it in my wine cooler storage unit, then opened it up about 20 minutes later. This wine is dry, full, bodied with pronounced flavour, and full mouthfeel. You get smaller creamy bubbles. Lemon, lime, sage, plus citrus rind on the palate to start, but again, if you wait a bit after opening, then stone fruit flavours become more obvious. The wine has a medium-plus length, finishing with the citrus and sage flavours, with stone fruits behind. Tart flavours. I was reminded of having key lime pie when I first tasted this wine.

After 93 Vineyards & Estate Winery Rosé Frizzante NV (BC $30) – Made from Cabernet Franc and Merlot grapes. It has a medium intensity, clear wild rose orange petal colour and medium-sized bubbles when poured. This wine has light, fresh aromas of strawberries and red cherries. It is dryish, with a medium-plus body and a lightly round mouthfeel. Almost mouth filling bubbles. Small biting bubbles to start that then become creamy. Bright flavours of tart red fruit, strawberries, and red cherries, plus some grape stem bitterness. A medium length finishing dry with red fruits, strawberries, and red cherry flavours, and a touch of pepperiness. Some drying tannins on the finish. An understated sparkling wine.
