BC’s Bordertown Vineyards & Estate Winery Syrah 2020 to Salute the End of SummerPR SAMPLE

With our summer days dwindling as the evening sun sets sooner, I decided to open a bottle of BC’s Bordertown Vineyards & Estate Winery Syrah 2020 that I received and to try it with a grilled sirloin steak.  The pairing was excellent as is the Syrah.  Let me tell you about the wine and the pairing.

My Wine Tasting Notes

Appearance: A medium-plus intensity consistently clear garnet colour from rim to core.
Nose: Medium-plus intensity, deep aromas of toast, plums, black berries, black cherries, and a touch of char. No change to the aromas after decanting.
Palate:  This wine is dry, medium-minus body, with a soft, smooth mouthfeel.  Light tannins and medium acidity.  Meaty, juicy black berries, black plums, and black cherries on the palate, along with a touch of oak bitterness and dark chocolate / cocoa toward the finish. After decanting the wine moves up to medium body.  There is more berry and red fruit flavour and a hint of floral. There is less char and meaty flavours. No dark chocolate  or cocoa flavour.  Quite a change to the flavours.
Finish: A medium length finishing with dark fruits, black cherries, and black berry flavours, plus a touch of char bitterness.  Medium acidity and light tannins to the end. Medium-plus length after decanting, with a light mouthfeel.  A touch of pepperiness and floral, and no char on the finish.

Rating: ****o****.*  with decanting.  The Bordertown Vineyards & Estate Winery Syrah 2020 shows a medium-plus garnet colour and offers aromas of toast, plums, blackberries, and cherries with a touch of char. The palate is smooth with medium-minus body, light tannins, and juicy dark fruits, shifting to more berry and red fruit flavours, with floral notes, and less char after decanting. The finish is medium to medium-plus length, with dark fruit, pepper, and floral hints after decanting, and light tannins.

Wine & Steak Pairing

I marinated the steak to further tenderize it then grilled it till it was medium-well done.  The steak was nicely tender to eat.  I enjoyed the pairing with the Syrah.  The char bitterness in the wine disappeared.  I enjoyed the fruit flavours from the wine with its medium acidity, but I could still feel some of the tannins in the wine, giving some structure.  A recommended paring.

Where Can I Buy This Wine?

This wine should be available for purchase through the Bordertown website soon.  The 2019 vintage is still listed on their website:

The 2020 Syrah is available for purchase at BC Liquor stores.  The Syrah is also available at select Save on Foods stores, but the vintage is not listed.
