Quick Review: Robin Ridge Winery Gamay 2022PR SAMPLE

While many people may think of full-bodied red wines for our cold winters, don’t count out lighter-bodied red wine with higher acidity and juicy bright fruit flavours.  They can brighten your day and pair nicely with a cheese plate, roast chicken, or fatty sausages.  One such wine is BC’s Robin Ridge Winery Gamay 2022.  It is also an organic wine if that is something you look for in a wine.

My Wine Tasting Notes

Robin Ridge Winery Gamay 2022 (BC $27.25)

Appearance: It is clear and bright with a medium-plus intensity garnet colour.
Nose: Clean, medium-intensity aromas of toast, juicy red fruits, red plums and touches of sweet spices and oak. After decanting, the toastiness and oak is lighter and there are not sweet spice aromas: mostly juicy berries and plum scents.
Palate: This wine is dry, with a soft, smooth mouthfeel.  With swirling the wine bumps up to medium body and gets a rounder mouthfeel.  Very light tannins.  Bright crunch red fruit, red berries, and tart juicy red cherry flavours, along with hints of vanilla and floral.  Fresh acidity. Same flavours but less intensity after decanting.  The wine stays medium-bodied with a thicker mouthfeel.
Finish: A medium-plus length finishing with mouthwatering acidity, tart red fruit flavours, a touch of pepperiness and light drying tannins.  You also get some leather on the finish after a bit of swirling in the glass. More tart red fruits on the finish plus a touch of bitterness after decanting.  Tannins are less and no pepperiness.

This is an acid-driven wine with red fruit aromas and crunchy red fruit flavours.  I do not recommend decanting this wine as it loses some aromatics and the flavour intensity is lessened.

Rating: 4 stars4.5 stars without decanting.  The Robin Ridge Winery Gamay 2022 has a bright garnet colour with aromas of juicy red fruits, plums, toast, and sweet spices, which shorten to mostly berries and plums after decanting. On the palate, it offers a soft, smooth mouthfeel with tart red cherries, berries, and hints of vanilla and floral notes, maintaining a medium body and fresh acidity. A medium-plus finish highlights tart red fruits, light tannins, and a touch of leather, with less intensity and a hint of bitterness after decanting.
