Taste ASV Wines from California at VanWineFest 2025

ASV Wines logoASV Wines is a new California winery to me, but it has been around for several years.  Let’s welcome ASV Wines and taste their wines at VanWineFest 2025.  ASV Wines is certified or affiliated with the California Sustainable Vineyard & Winery Association (CSWA), California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF), International Featured Standard (IFS), California Association of Wine Grape Growers (CAWG) and more.

Here is some background to the winery, in their own words.

About ASV Wines

ASV Wines has over a century of expertise and dedication to growing California grapes. ASV’s history is deeply rooted in centuries of grape growing in Central Europe. Just over a century ago, a blight of Phylloxera in Europe caused the Zaninovich family to relocate to California – the ideal location for growing the highest quality grapes. In the early 1970s, the family saw exceptional potential coming from Monterey County’s Arroyo Seco wine region. Since then, ASV has acquired over 1,500 acres of premium vineyards, and Monterey County has emerged as one of California’s most celebrated wine-growing regions. Today, ASV wines celebrate the family tradition of grape growing and the pursuit of excellence through their 10 unique Californian wine brands on the market.

ASV produces a wide range of Californian wines that are reflective of the State’s diversity, quality, and broad market appeal. ASV has found success in both specialized niche products from sought-after subregions like Arroyo Seco and entry-level products with broad appeal that have helped consumers choose Californian wine at the shelf.

The Vineyards

Starting in 1972 with Suter Vineyard, our home ranch, then with Zanetta Vineyard in 1988, and with Wiley Ranch Vineyard in 1998, we established vineyards in different growing areas of the Arroyo Seco American Viticultural Area (AVA). To the south of our Arroyo Seco vineyards lies our certified organic Los Lobos Vineyard. Each of these vineyards benefit from a distinctive microclimates and soils down to individual blocks. Through decades of trial and error, we’ve identified which vineyard locations produce the most exceptional grapes year after year. In addition to our Monterey County vineyards, we own vineyards in Paso Robles and the San Joaquin Valley, and control acreage in premium appellations across the state through long-term contracts with top growers.

These ASV Wines will be poured at consumer and trade sessions of VanWineFest 2025:

Verraco Ridge Monterey Chardonnay 2023 – 2020 vintage notes: To preserve the intense tropical aromatics inherent in the grapes when we pick them, we cool-ferment the fruit in stainless steel. Secondary, malolactic fermentation in oak barrels adds delectable vanilla accents and buttery notes to the finished wine.  Aromas of citrus, guava, and mango framed with hints of vanilla bean and toasty oak, with a crisp yet creamy finish.

Verraco Ridge Monterey Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 – A blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Malbec, and 3% Petit Verdot. Aromas of black cherry, red currant, and dark cassis framed by notes of vanilla, mocha, and toasty oak, with supple tannins and a rich finish.

Montoya Monterey Chardonnay 2023 – 2021 vintage notes: Fresh tropical fruit and hints
of vanilla on the nose; followed by rich peach and nectarine flavours with a crisp finish.

Montoya Monterey Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 – Aromas of blackberry, and cassis followed by flavours of dark cherry, plums, and subtle cedar and vanilla.

Fogscape Arroyo Seco Pinot Noir 2021 – Opens with aromas of pomegranate and red berries, transitioning to flavours of red cherry and light spice with lush, silky tannins on the finish.
