Meyer Family Vineyards and Mayhem Wines with Two Takes on Rose WinePR SAMPLE

Today I have two rosé wines from BC’s Meyer Family Vineyards, actually one is from their sister winery, Mayhem Wines.  One wine is made from 100% Pinot Noir and the other from a blend of four different red grapes.  Both wines also underwent different fermentation processes.  The two wines are the Meyer Rosé 2023 and the Mayhem Rosé 2023.  Can you guess which one is the 100% Pinot Noir rosé?

My Wine Tasting Notes

Meyer Rosé 2023 (BC $20.96)

From the winery, “Harvested from three vineyard sites located in Okanagan Falls, Kaleden and Naramata, our 2023 Rosé is crafted from 100% Pinot Noir. Produced in a Saignée method with 12 hours of skin contact giving it a beautiful deep coral colour. It fermented in French oak barrels (50%) and stainless steel vats (50%) where it went through partial indigenous fermentation.”

Appearance: A clear, medium-intensity garnet & salmon-coloured wine.
Nose: Medium intensity, deep aromas of raspberries, bramble berries and a touch of grape stem. No change to the aromas after decanting.
Palate: Dryish, with medium-plus intensity body, and a thicker, smooth mouthfeel.  Light acidic prickle on the tongue.  Deep flavours of raspberries, bramble and light grape stem.  Some tart red berries later and rhubarb with time in the glass. Light tannins. Some toastiness, rhubarb and violet flavours are noticeable after decanting.
Finish: A medium-plus length to the end with a mix of red fruits, raspberries and bramble.  A thick mouthfeel to the end.  Some toastiness and light pepperiness with air. Quite peppery after decanting.

Give this wine a few minutes in the glass to open up.  Deeper red fruit aromas and flavours.

Rating: 4 stars A deeper garnet/salmon coloured wine.  Deep aromas of raspberries, bramble berries and a touch of grape stem. It is dryish with medium-plus body and a thicker, smooth mouthfeel. Mayhem Rosé 2023 (BC $21.83. Currently sold out at the winery)

The grapes for this wine come from the Kaleden area. This wine is Zweigelt dominant with a small amount of Merlot, Pinotage, and Malbec. 87% of the wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks with the remainder in neutral barrels.

Appearance: A pale, clear, watermelon colour in the glass.
Nose: Medium intensity, lively aromas of red fruits, strawberries and herbaceousness. Same aromas after decanting plus a touch of candied cherries.
Palate: This wine is dry with medium-plus body, acidity, and flavour intensity.  Fresh flavours of tart red fruits, strawberries and herbaceousness (which fades).  Also a touch of stony minerality and red cherries.  Rhubarb flavour comes out with time in the glass. Light tannins. No change on the palate after decanting.
Finish: Medium-plus length finishing with lingering tart red fruits, herbaceous and puckering acidity.  Light tannins and pepperiness with air. No change to the finish after decanting.

An exciting rosé wine.  Too bad it is in quite limited quantities now.  No need to decant.  Open and enjoy.
