Have you ever tried an “orange wine” before? An orange wine is a wine made with white grapes that have extended skin contact like is done for red grapes to extract colour and tannins from those grapes. While white grape skin does not have much colour to extract, you do get some orange colour plus tannins from the skins. At Taste Washington I tasted the Hard Row to Hoe Vineyards Skin Ferment Orange Muscat 2021 made with of course Orange Muscat grapes. So an orange Orange Muscat wine. Fun.
Julian Shaver, head winemaker at Hard Row to Hoe Vineyards from the Lake Chelan area in Washington State told me how he produced this wine in this video interview. I have tasting notes for this wine as well, which will come in a separate article. Enjoy the interview.
