Ontario Chardonnay Review: Tawse Quarry Road Vineyard Chardonnay 2023PR SAMPLE

My next wine for my Ontario Chardonnay Review comes from Tawse Winery, located in the Twenty Mile Bench area of the Niagara Peninsula.  I received their Tawse Quarry Road Vineyard Chardonnay 2023 for the review.  They farm organically, although I didn’t notice an organic symbol on the wine label.  This vineyard has been certified organic since 2008.  Here are my notes for this wine.

My Wine Tasting Notes

Tawse Quarry Road Vineyard Chardonnay 2023 (ON $36.95)

Tawse Quarry Road Vineyard Chardonnay 2023 with wine in the glass

Appearance:  A lighter medium intensity lemon colour in the glass.  Teardrops visible on the sides of the glass with swirling.
Nose:  Lighter aromas of oak, apple, and a touch of sweet spices to start, but with some time in the glass and the wine warming up a bit, you get bruised apples then tropical fruit and butterscotch aromas.  The aromas bump up to medium or medium-plus after decanting, plus you get more tropical fruit and sweet spice aromas.
Palate:  This wine is dry, medium body with a smooth, soft, thicker mouthfeel.  Medium-plus acidity.  Apple, light toast and a touch of sweet spice to start, and similar to the aromas, with time in the glass you get tropical fruit flavours.  Tropical fruit flavours are more prominent after decanting.
Finish:  Medium-plus length finishing with mouth-watering acidity, and flavours of sweet spice, crisp apple, and a touch of pepperiness.  With time in the glass, you also get tropical fruit on the finish.  More tropical fruit on the finish after decanting.

This wine benefits from a short decant, bringing out the tropical fruit aromas and flavours.

Rating: ****o with decanting.  The Tawse Quarry Road Vineyard Chardonnay 2023 shows a lighter medium lemon colour and opens with subtle aromas of oak, apple, and sweet spice, evolving to bruised apple, and finally tropical fruit and butterscotch with air and decanting. On the palate it is dry and medium-bodied with a smooth, slightly thicker texture and medium-plus acidity, offering apple, light toast, sweet spice, and increasingly prominent tropical fruit flavours with decanting. The finish is medium-plus in length, bright and mouth-watering with crisp apple, spice, a hint of pepperiness, with tropical fruit becoming more prominent after decanting.
