Quick Review: My Last Two Adega on 45th Wines for YouPR SAMPLE

Here are my last two wines from Osoyoos’ Adega on 45th Estate Winery for you; A 2024 Rosé and a 2020 Malbec.  The Rosé is made from Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes.  Let me tell you about them.

My Wine Tasting Notes

Adega on 45th Estate Winery Rosé 2024 (BC $24.99.  A wine club exclusive.)

Winemaker’s notes, a blend of “…50% Merlot 50% Cabernet Franc. All hand picked estate fruit sitting on the East side of Osoyoos Lake with sunny South West exposures and amazing terroir.  Whole-cluster pressed then fermented in stainless steel.

Appearance:  This wine has a bright, clear, medium intensity orange-salmon colour.
Nose:  Medium-minus intensity aromas of strawberries.  After decanting you can add a touch of grape stem to the aroma profile.
Palate:  Dry, medium to medium-plus body with a lean, thicker mouthfeel.  Red fruits, raspberries and strawberries, along with some pepperiness and a tart, herbaceous touch toward the finish.  Higher acidity.  The wine has softer acidity leading to a smoother mouthfeel after decanting.  The herbaceous touch transitions to grape stem after decanting.
Finish:  Medium-plus length finishing with tart red fruit, red cherries, some pepperiness.  A steely finish. The wine has a peppery finish after decanting and strawberry flavour is more noticeable.

This wine has light aromas of strawberries but has more red fruit flavours on the palate.  A solid rosé wine.  I like the decanted version a bit better with the lighter acidity and smoother mouthfeel.

Rating: ****o  Adega on 45th’s Rosé 2024 shows a bright orange-salmon hue with subtle strawberry notes on the nose, gaining a hint of grape stem after decanting. The palate is dry with medium body and higher acidity, offering raspberries, strawberries and a touch of pepperiness, which softens with air to reveal smoother texture and a shift from herbaceous to grape stem tones. It finishes with medium-plus length, driven by tart red fruits, light pepper and a steely edge.

Adega on 45th Estate Winery Malbec 2020 (BC $32.99)

Winemaker’s notes, “All hand picked estate fruit sitting on the East side of Osoyoos Lake with sunny South West exposures and amazing terroir. Whole-cluster pressed. Fermentation in stainless steel and French Oak for 14 months.”

Appearance:  A dull, opaque to the rim ruby colour.
Nose:  Medium-minus intensity, deep black fruit, black plums, plus some oak and earthiness on the nose.  No change to the aromas after decanting.
Palate:  This wine is dry, medium-plus body with a smooth, soft, luscious mouthfeel.  Medium acidity and tannins. Ripe sweet black fruit, sweet spices, plums, some pepperiness and medium oak on the palate.  With some air, also picked up some violets.  The flavours remind of me Port wine without the sweetness. Tasty.  More pronounced flavours after decanting plus stronger tannins.  I now pick up nutmeg spice, oak, and cedar flavours, and less of the red apples.  The stronger tannins makes the mouthfeel more structured, less luscious.
Finish:  Medium-plus to long length, finishing with medium-minus tannins.  Ripe sweet black fruit, black cherries, some tart fruit, and touches of oak and vanilla.  The only difference I noted after decanting this wine is stronger tannins.

This wine’s flavours reminds me of a dry port wine.  Delicious.  Decanting adds tannic structure to the wine.  This wine is stoppered with a synthetic cork so maybe this wine can age for another 3-4 years.  If this wine were under real cork, I would estimate that this wine could age another 5-6 years.

Rating: ****.*  Adega on 45th’s Malbec 2020 offers a deep, opaque ruby colour and a nose of black fruit, plums and subtle oak and earth. The palate is smooth and medium-plus bodied, showing ripe black fruit, sweet spices and a Port-like richness without the sweetness, gaining floral notes and more structured tannins after decanting. It finishes medium-plus to long with lingering black fruit, light oak and increasing tannic grip with air.
