Quick Review: BC’s Frind Estate Winery Pinot Noir Cuvee 2022PR SAMPLE

I love Pinot Noir wines, with their more delicate aromas, flavours, and mouthfeel.  My first Pinot Noir to taste in 2025 is from Frind Estate Winery in West Kelowna; Their Frind Estate Winery Pinot Noir Cuvée 2022, coming under screwcap.  It checks off all the things that I enjoy in Pinot Noir: red fruit and floral aromas and flavours, higher acidity, and lighter tannins.

Appearance: A clear, medium-intensity garnet colour; translucent with colour consistent from core to rim.
Nose: Medium-minus intensity aromas of red fruit and raspberries, with touches of toast, oak, and blackberries. More sweet dark fruit aromas after decanting along with sweet spices and oak.
Palate: This wine is dry, with a lighter body, soft, mouthfeel, lean to lightly round, and thin mid-palate.  Medium acidity and lighter tannins.  Medium-plus intensity floral, red fruit, red cherries and some candied cherries on the palate.  Plus touches of sweet spices, oak and blackberries. Still light mouthfeel with a thin mid-apalte after decanting.  More tart red fruit flavours and some salty minerality.
Finish: A medium to medium-plus length finishing with mouthwatering acidity, medium tannins, tart red fruits and touches of blackberries and pepperiness. Add some cherries to the finish after decanting.

This wine has bright flavours of red fruit and floral, which I like in a Pinot Noir.  The only thing I wish it had was a fuller mid-palate mouthfeel.  I’d say that this wine is still young and can easily age for another 4-5 years.

Rating: 4 stars The Frind Estate Winery Pinot Noir Cuvée 2022 offers a clear garnet hue with aromas of red fruit, raspberries, and touches of oak that deepen to sweet dark fruit and spices after decanting. The palate is dry and light-bodied, with red cherries, floral notes, and a hint of salty minerality, complemented by medium acidity and lighter tannins. A medium to medium-plus finish highlights tart red fruits, cherries, and a touch of pepperiness.
