Quick Review: Ricasoli Brolio Chianti Classico 2019

One of my favourite producers of Chianti Classico is Ricasoli. I was happy to receive a bottle of their Ricasoli Brolio DOCG 2019 to review. I have reviewed and recommended past vintages of this wine, and I will continue to recommend it with the tasting of this vintage.  The winery is located in the Gaiole Unità Geografiche Aggiuntive (UGA), or Additional Geographical Units in the southeast corner of  Chianti Classico. The UGA above it is Radda which is known for elegance and red fruit flavours.  I don’t know exactly where Ricasoli is located, but maybe it is closer to the border with Radda due to the flavour profile I note below.

My Tasting Notes

A blend of Sangiovese minimum 80%, 15% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks with 14-16 days of skin contact then aged for 9 months in second and third-fill tonneaux.

Appearance: A deeper, clear garnet colour.  About 70% opaque.
Nose: Medium-intensity youthful aromas of red fruits, sweet spices, and light oak. No change to the aromas with decanting.
Palate: Dry, medium-plus body, smooth and round, but not mouth-filling.  A lighter mouthfeel on the mid-palate. Floral, red fruits and candied cherry flavours, plus a touch of oak and then pepperiness toward the finish.  Medium-plus acidity. The wine is a bit rounder and more mouth-filling with decanting.  No change to the flavours.
Finish: Medium-plus length finishing with red and tart red fruit and light pepperiness.  A light mouthfeel.  Mouthwatering acidity and medium-intensity fine-grained tannins. No change to the finish with decanting.

No need to decant this wine.  Just open and enjoy with your favourite tomato-based pasta sauce or pizza.

Rating: 4.5 stars A wine with youthful red fruit and sweet spices on the nose.  Medium-plus body with floral, red fruits and candied red cherries flavours. Medium-plus acidity.  Medium-plus length

Where Can I Buy This Wine?

You can purchase this wine from BC Liquor stores, although they are showing the 2018 vintage on their website.  It may be 2019, as the website may not be updated for this wine.  Everything Wine is also showing that this wine is available, but they do not show the vintage.
