Flat Rock Cellars Nadja’s Riesling 2018 (ON $25.15)
Another beauty from the Beamsville area to share with everyone today – this time, we’re going to Flat Rock Cellars for Nadja’s Riesling 2018.
Before we dive into the wine, I wanted to share some fun facts about the winery.
They are only 1 of 5 wineries in Ontario that are Certified Sustainable; they take a lot of pride in preserving their ecosystem through various practices including geo-thermal heating and cooling systems, low impact viticulture practices, landscaping that compliments the surrounding environment, light-weight glass to minimum carbon footprint, and so much more!
They only plant cool climate varieties including Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Riesling and a little bit of Gewürztraminer.
Their head winemaker, David Sheppard was named Winemaker of the Year for 2021 by the Ontario Wine Awards; this is his first win as he caps off a 40-year career in winemaking.
Now the wine…
I love love love this wine and this is such a beautiful example from Ontario – not to mention, extremely age-worthy. You can cellar this for 10 years and it would still hold up wonderfully!
On it, I got the quintessential notes of petrol, pears, apples, lemon and wet cement. It was super smooth on the palate with a long finish and perfectly balanced!
