I have not heard of Sagewood Winery before, but I learned from Doug, the owner, that he and his wife have been growing 17 different varieties of grapes for more years than any other winery in the Kamloops area. They are a very small production winery and do not make enough wine of each variety to enter into many wine competitions, which does slow awards and word of mouth recommendations. The winery is located about 3 km east of Harper’s Trail Estate Winery. I do not know all 17 varieties of grapes that they grow, but it should be very interesting for the other wineries to know and find out which ones are doing the best. Maybe there are some surprise varieties that you would not think could handle the cold Kamloops winter?
My Tasting Notes
Sagewood Winery Sparkling Lieblich 2018 ($17.30) – this sparkling wine is made with the Kerner grape. I think that this is the first time I tasted a sparkling Kerner. It has a lightly toasted apple nose. It’s semi-sweet with a lighter body and tart acid. Light stone fruit flavour along with flintiness and pepperiness. 
Sagewood Winery Riesling 2018 ($17.30) – Light apricot and apple aromas. It is off-dry with a round, light mouthfeel. Medium acidity. Flavours of roasted apples and apricots. There is also a touch of butterscotch. Honey on the finish. 
Sagewood Winery Pinot Noir 2015 ($19.04) – Very pale garnet in colour. Red fruit nose. Light body, dry with medium-fine tannins. Very light red fruit and red cherry flavours, along with a hint of a herbaceous note. Some greenness and pepperiness on the finish.
Sagewood Winery Marechal Foch 2018 ($19.04) – Medium intensity translucent garnet in the glass. Smoky, toasty, dark fruit nose. Medium-plus body, dry and smooth with a thicker mouthfeel. Light acidity and fine tannins. Flavours of black pepper, black cherries, bramble fruit and coffee. Tasty. A nice interplay between pepper, ripe fruit, and smokiness.
