Summer is here, it’s hot outside, and you need a cool drink on the patio. More people are opening a botle of rose wine. I received a bottle of SpierHead Pinot Noir Rose 2014 to taste. Spierhead Winery is located in Kelowna on Spiers Road. I have tasted many of their wines in the past and all have been good to very good quality.

The SpierHead Pinot Noir Rose 2014 (~$18) is a pale cherry colour in the glass. It has a very light, youthful nose with aromas of red fruit and raspberries. After giving this wine extended decanting time, I also picked up on some violets and red cherries on the nose. It is dry with higher acidity. Not soft, but has acidic angles to it. It is not full bodied, but is quite fruity with red cherry and red fruit flavours, and a hint of green leaves. It finishes off with mouth-watering acidity followed by some leafiness and pepper. This is a simple, straightforward wine to sip when it is hot outside.
Rating: A simple, straightforward rose with light red fruit aromas and flavours.
