The ship has sailed and I am halfway through this trip on the Rhine River with Avalon Waterways. I saw many steeply sloped vineyards yesterday south of Koblenz as well as a few castles perched on hillsides.
Today we passed by Heidelberg. Here are my tasting notes for a few more wines I enjoyed during my dinners. I have been tasting wines not available in BC as far as I know, but maybe some will find our market.
My Wine Tasting Notes
The Alfred Fischer Limited Pinot Blanc, Austria, 2025, has a medium intensity, bright lemon in colour with a greenish tint. The nose is light, offering fresh aromas of lime and green apple.
On the palate, this Pinot Blanc is medium-plus in body with high acidity that brings a lively, slightly prickly sensation. Flavours of tart citrus, crisp apple, and citrus rind are complemented by a distinct stony minerality. Despite the bright acidity, the wine has a round, somewhat thicker mouthfeel and finishes dry. The finish is medium-plus in length, leaving lingering notes of tart citrus, a touch of pepper, and citrus rind.

The Masseria La Vignate Primitivo IGP Puglia 2024 is a deep, clear garnet in the glass. The nose is fairly light, offering subtle black fruit aromas.
On the palate, this Primitivo is full-bodied with a smooth, soft texture. Flavours of ripe and tart black fruits lead the way, supported by a touch of light, woody oak. Medium-plus acidity brings a slightly puckering edge, while light tannins keep the structure approachable. The finish is medium-plus in length, marked by lingering tart black fruit and a hint of peppery spice.

The 2023 Gran Appasso Puglia Rosso by Femar Vini is a blend of Negroamaro, Syrah and Cabernet. It has a deep, clear garnet colour in the glass. The nose is medium in intensity, offering ripe, rich aromas of black cherry and dark fruits, with a hint of light oak.
On the palate, this wine is full-bodied with a smooth, round, and slightly thicker mouthfeel. Though dry, it shows sweetly ripe flavours of dark fruit and black cherry. Soft, light tannins and medium acidity provide balance, while subtle notes of pepper and oak add complexity. The finish is medium-plus in length, with lingering rich fruit and a touch of oak.

Stay tuned for more Rhine River cruise wines. Cheers.
