After attending the Portuguese Wine Experience Masterclass earlier in the day, there was also a tasting room set up with wines from various Portuguese wineries to try. Below are the wines that I enjoyed the most. The names of the grapes are not well-known as they are indigenous to Portugal. So no Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are listed below, rather you will see names like Baga, Encruzado, and Rabigato. Enjoy.

Adega de Cantanhede Marques de Marialva Baga Blanc de Noir Cuvee Brut 2014 – This winery and the three sparkling wines I’ve listed, need an agent in BC. This sparkling wine is made from the Baga grape. It has a medium lemon colour. Light apple with nutmeg aroma. Apple and nutmeg on the palate. Creamy bubbles.
Adega de Cantanhede Marques de Marialva Baga Blanc de Noir Brut NV – A non-vintage sparkling made from the Baga grape. It has a medium lemon colour. Light lemon and crable apple aromas and flavours. Medium-sized cream plus biting bubbles. Medium length.
Adega de Cantanhede Marques de Marialva Blanc de Blancs Brut NV – A blend of Bical, Arinto, and Maria Gomes grapes. This sparkling wine has a medium lemon colour. Light toast, bready and apple aromas. Dryish, full body with medium-sized crisp bubbles. Apple and apple sauce flavours.
Boas Quintas Opta Dao Encruzado 2022 – This wine has a light toasty nose. Dry, medium body, soft and smooth mouthfeel. Stone fruit and some grape stem on the palate.
Boas Quintas Fonte de Ouro Encruzado 2022 – A bright, medium-intensity lemon colour. Medium body and acidity. Round and thick mouthfeel. Stone fruit and grape stem flavours.
Casa Santos Lima Desvario Avesso 2021 – made with Avesso grapes in the Vinho Verde region. It has a light lemon colour with light toasty aromas. Medium-minus body and medium acidity. Bright stone fruit flavours plus a touch of flint or toast.
CARM Reserva Branco 2022 – a blend of Rabigato, Viosinho, and Codega de Larinho grapes. This wine has a light stone fruit nose. Dry, medium body with bright acidity. Fresh stone fruit flavours, plus pineapple and a mineral streak.
CARM Natural Branco 2020 – a blend of Gouveio, Rabigato, Moscatel, and Galego Branco grapes. It has light stone fruit aromas. Medium-plus body, round with a thicker mouthfeel Medium intensity acidic prickle. Ripe stone fruit flavours.
Cartuxa – Fundacao Eugenio de Almeida EA Bio 2021 – a blend of Arinto and Assario Branco grapes. This wine has a medium lemon colour. Petrol and lemon aromas. Medium-minus body with a lean, light mouthfeel. Petrol, apple, and citrus flavours.
Casa Ferreirinha Castas Escondidas Tinto 2019 – made with a blend of Tinto Cao, Tinta da Barca, Rufete, Tinta Francisca, Bastardo, Marufo, and Touriga Femea red grapes. This wine has a medium-intensity bright garnet colour. A light candied cherry nose. Medium body, dry with medium acidity and tannins. Mixed red fruit flavours.
Quinto do Sanguinhal Francisco Obidos Red 2019 – a blend of Castelao, Aragonez, and Touriga Nacional grapes. This wine has a medium-intensity clear garnet colour. Light aromas of red fruit and petrol. Medium body with a soft mouthfeel. Dark fruit, petrol, tar and nutmeg flavours, with red fruit on the finish.
Ravasqueira Superior 2021 – made from a blend of Touriga Nacional, Aragonez, Syrah, and Alicante Bouschet. This wine has a deeper, bright garnet colour. A light red cherry nose. Dry, medium-body with a lean mouthfeel. Medium acidity and tannins. Red fruit flavours.
