Closson Chase Vineyards 2018 Closson Chase Vineyard Pinot Noir (ON $36)
One of my favorite dishes to make for dinner year-round is risotto. I find it so versatile – really you can use whatever is in season to create a unique risotto every time.
So the other night, I was making a risotto with a bunch of veggies I had on hand, and since I was using mushrooms as the star veggie with supporting roles to zucchini and pepper, I opted to go for a local Pinot Noir (earthiness of the mushrooms go hand in hand with the earthy notes in a Pinot).
Now, I know you’ve heard me rave about Closson Chase from Prince Edward County so many times – so I knew I was setting myself up for success with this pairing. I opened their 2018 Vineyard Pinot Noir for the dinner, and even my partner who barely drinks wine was in awe of this pairing. Success!
There were notes of cherries, strawberries and red plums woven through accents of dried rose petals, damp forest floor and just a touch of herbs. The complexities showed themselves on the palate too with a long finish and a super balanced body. Absolutely sublime!
