Malbec World Day is on April 17 and I have two Malbecs for you from Bodega Luigi Bosca in Argentina. Malbec is best known as the signature red grape of Argentina, although it originally comes from France, both in Bordeaux and in Cahors. Let me tell you about these two wines.
My Tasting Notes
Bodega Luigi Bosca La Linda Private Selection Old Vines Malbec 2019 (BC $19.48 on sale)
Appearance: A deep, dull garnet colour, about 90% opaque.
Nose: Medium-minus intensity aromas of a mix of red and black fruit, red cherries, and a touch of leather. No change to the aromas with decanting.
Palate: Dry, smooth and round, but not mouth-filling. The wine does get bigger with swirling in the glass. Ripe berries, black fruit, and touches of violets, plums, candied cherries and oak. You can add raspberries, a touch of leather and some bitterness with decanting. It also has a more tannic feel on the palate.
Finish: A medium-plus length finishing with black fruit, red cherries, and a touch of pepperiness and tartness. No change with decanting.
I prefer the undecanted version of this wine as the tannins are softer.
Rating: –
Medium-intensity aromas of red and black fruit and a touch of leather. The wine is dry and smooth, with a lighter mouthfeel. Ripe berries, black fruit, and touches of violets, plums, candied cherries and oak. Medium-plus length.

Bodega Luigi Bosca Malbec 2019 (BC $30.35)
Appearance: A deep, dull garnet colour, about 95% opaque.
Nose: Medium-minus aromas showing red fruit, blackberries, and a touch of oak, sweet spices and chocolate. The aromas get lighter with decanting.
Palate: Dry, medium body, smooth with a lean mouthfeel. As above, this wine gets rounder with air. Sweet, ripe red and black fruit, red cherries, raspberries, and ripe black plums, plus a touch of candied red cherries, leather and black pepper. More black fruit flavour and less red fruit flavour with decanting. Plus I picked up a touch of vanilla toward the finish.
Finish: Medium-plus length with smooth tannins, red fruit, cherries and chocolate, plus some pepperiness and oak. Closer to medium length with decanting and more black fruit flavour.
I prefer the undecanted version as the aromas were a bit stronger and there was more red fruit flavours, which I prefer.
Rating: –
A Malbec with lighter red and black fruit aromas. Medium body, dry with a leaner, but smooth mouthfeel. Red and black fruits with some black pepper and a touch of candied red cherries on the palate. Medium-plus length.
