Do Wines Puzzle You?

Wines can be puzzling when you start to learn more, but as you learn more, you appreciate the wines more, and hopefully enjoy the wines more.  One way to learn about where your favorite wines come from would be to view them on a map, or even better to put together a jigsaw puzzle of a map showing the wine regions.  Water and Wines from Sweden have made several maps of different wine regions where they label the grape varieties, e.g. Cabernet Sauvignon, or wine style, e.g. Rosé wine, that comes from certain areas in a wine-producing country like France.

I was sent their France Wine region jigsaw puzzle to try. With 1000 pieces, it is a challenge.  It isn’t a traditional map like you would get on a Google search.  Rather, they hired a graphic artist to draw a map ad label it with Rosé, Cabernet Sauvignon, etc, plus the names of wine regions, e.g. Champagne and Bordeaux.  Even for me, knowing France quite well, I still learned a bit about some grapes I was not that familiar with. I spent some time each evening after dinner putting together pieces of the puzzle till it was finished.  I don’t work quickly so it took me 2 weeks.

If you are a better jigsaw puzzle solver, you can probably get it done much faster.  The puzzle pieces are quite well made.  They are firm and fit together snugly.  Each piece stays together, without having the top start to peel off, like some less expensive puzzles I’ve tried in the past.  I really enjoyed this puzzle.  I think it would make a great birthday or Christmas gift for a family member or friend that enjoys wine.  There are several puzzles from Water and Wines:

  • France
  • Italy
  • Scotland (whisky!)
  • California
  • Germany
  • Portugal
  • Spain
  • South Africa
  • Australia

There are lots of puzzles for you to select.  I think it would also help you if you are planning to visit one of these regions.  Learn more about it before going.

Thanks to Water and Wines for sending me the France wine puzzle.
