This is the third Pinot Noir in a row that I am recently reviewing for you; working my way to fuller-bodied reds. This Pinot Noir comes from the Okanagan Valley, from a variety of vineyards. It is the Meyer Family Vineyards Pinot Noir 2022. It comes under a screwcap and is ready to drink. Let me tell you about it.
My Wine Tasting Notes
Meyer Family Vineyards Pinot Noir 2022 (BC $24.43 at the winery)
From the winery, “Hand-picked from four distinctive vineyard sites located in Naramata, Osoyoos, Kaleden and Okanagan Falls this is a classic blend of Okanagan Pinot Noir. The wine aged in neutral French oak barrels and puncheons before bottling. Ripe cherries and raspberries on the nose, and the palate is juicy and fresh with generous amounts of fruit. Soft and silky tannins make this wine very approachable and ready to drink now or enjoy it over the next 3 to 4 years. We produced 2,800 cases.”
Appearance: Crystal clear, medium-intensity garnet coloured with a ruby tinge. It is quite striking in its clarity.
Nose: Medium-intensity aromas of toasty red fruit with some smokiness as well. After decanting you can add sweet red fruit aromas and lessen the smokiness.
Palate: Dry, medium body and medium plus acidity. Round with a slightly thicker mouthfeel. Tart juicy red reds and red cherries along with a touch of florality and toast and smokiness. Light tannins. A bit of oak toward the finish. The wine has a lighter body and a leaner mouthfeel after decanting. The toastiness / smokiness is also reduced, but I now pick up tart cranberry flavour.
Finish: Medium-plus length finishing with tart red fruits, almost puckering, some smokiness and pepperiness. Acidity driven to the finish. Red cherries at the very end. The fruit flavours and acidity do not change with decanting; you just get less smokiness.
I prefer the undecanted version of this wine as it is round and has a bit more body. But there is nothing wrong with enjoying this wine the next day.
