Orchard + Vine: Two Juicy Fruit Wines from Garnet Valley RanchPR SAMPLE

With the upcoming holiday season, you, or your guests, may not want a glass of wine, beer, or cocktail.  Maybe something lower in alcohol, but still has nice fruit flavours.  Orchard + Field is just that.  Wine made using fruit from  orchard and berries from the fields and crafted at Garnet Valley Ranch in Summerland, BC.  I received two bottles of Orchard + Field sparkling wines to review for you.  Both of these fruit wines are made with a blend of apples and berry fruits, fermented to 5% alcohol.  One of the Orchard + Field wines has the addition of cranberries, maybe making it more festive for the holiday season?  We are not told which berries or apples go into these two fruit wines as the blend may change each year.  They are meant to be enjoyed now, and not cellared like grape-based wine for years.

Here are my tasting notes for these two fruit wines. I tried them both on their own and then after adding some club soda to each glass.  You can enjoy Orchard + Field either way, according to Garnet Valley Ranch.

My Wine Tasting Notes

Garnet Valley Ranch Orchard + Field (BC $17.99) – has a clear, medium intensity rhubarb-cherry colour in the glass.  Many medium-sized bubbles cling to the sides of the glass.  It has pronounced aromas of citrus, cherries, plums, red berries, and a touch of sweet spices.  Medium-dry, full-bodied with a thicker mouthfeel.  Pronounced flavours of citrus, tart red berries and cherries and a hint of sweet spice. Medium-sized biting bubbles. It has a long finish, finishing with these same flavours.  A fun sip with citrus and tart red berry flavours. ****o

If you add some club soda to the glass you still get a lot of citrus and red berry aromas.  It has a little lighter mouthfeel with softer bubbles.  Still lots of flavour, with citrus predominant.  The finish is also softer, less tart.

Garnet Valley Ranch Orchard + Field Cranberry (BC $17.99) – A medium intensity cherry colour.  Lots of frothy bubbles when first poured then many remain on the sides of the glass.  Medium-plus aromas of sweet candied cherries, cranberries, red berries, and floral.  It is medium-dry, medium-plus body with a thicker mouthfeel.  A mix of medium-sized biting and creamy bubbles.  Pronounced flavours of candied cherries, tart red berries, and cranberries.  A long length, finishing with the same fruit flavours, plus a hint of drying tannins. It feels a bit tarter than the first Orchard + Field wine.  ****o

After adding club soda to the glass, the aromas stay the same.  The drink tastes dried and the bubbles are less aggressive and more creamy.  You still get lots of red berry fruit flavour.

You can enjoy these two fruit wines either straight from the bottle into your glass, or make it more festive, sparkly by adding club soda and maybe a garnish for the holidays.
