Today, I’m easing us into the colder weather with a 2024 Rosé and a Gamay wine made by Oliver’s Domaine Artema Winery. Gamay is a red wine grape with less tannins and more acidity, making it easier to sip on its own as well as being food friendly. The Rosé wine uses Pinot Noir primarily with a substantial amount of Gamay. Pinot Noir also is known to be lower in tannins and higher in acidity, so together, they should work harmoniously. Let me tell you about these two wines.
My Wine Tasting Notes
Domaine Artema Winery Rosé Village 2024 (BC $29.90)
A blend of 76% Pinot Noir, 22% Gamay, and 2% Chardonnay. Winemaker’s notes, “To keep the colour delicate, Pinot Noir and Gamay grapes were whole-cluster pressed before being co-fermented in stainless steel. After fermentation, the wine was racked off the lees and aged in stainless steel to preserve its fresh, vibrant character. A small portion of our sparkling base was then blended in to elevate the acidity-adding just a touch of Chardonnay (2%) to the final blend.”
Appearance: a medium-minus intensity orange-rose petal colour.
Nose: Light aromas of red fruits and strawberries. The aromas are even lighter after decanting.
Palate: Dry with lighter body and a round mouthfeel. Medium-plus acidity leave a light acidic prickle in your mouth. Strawberries and tart red fruits, red cherries and a hint of grape stem on the palate. Just a hint of tannins to start, that gets stronger toward the finish. No change to the flavours, body, or mouthfeel after decanting.
Finish: A medium-plus length finishing with tart red fruit flavours; a bit puckering, plus pepperiness and some bitter grape stem. Very light tannins. A bit more grape stem flavour after decanting.
No need to decant.

Domaine Artema Winery Rosé Village 2024 offers a gentle orange-rose hue with light red fruit and strawberry aromas that stay subtle in the glass. The palate is dry lighter bodied, showing tart red fruits, cherries, and a touch of grape stem supported by medium-plus acidity and very light tannins. It finishes with medium-plus length and a puckering mix of tart red fruit, pepperiness, and a bit more grape stem after decanting.

Domaine Artema Winery Gamay Village 2024 (BC $34.90)
Winemaker’s notes, “Picked at lower Brix and higher acidity to highlight the vibrant character of the Gamay, the berries were destemmed and gently crushed before being transferred to tank. Fermentation lasted seven days in two separate tanks, with twice-daily pump-overs and distinct yeast strains used in each to enhance unique flavour profiles. After pressing, portions of the two lots were carefully blended to produce a bright and crisp Gamay with lively freshness.”
Appearance: a medium-minus intensity, very translucent electric fuchsia colour in the glass. It really is a striking colour.
Nose: Medium intensity aromas of plum and raspberry (most), plus an earthy and dusty component. Decanting banished the earthy/dusty component and intensified juicy berry flavours.
Palate: This wine is dry with medium-minus body and a lean mouthfeel. Tart plums, raspberries, cherries, and other purple fruits, plus an earthy, woodiness on the palate. Light tannins and medium to medium-plus acidity. Much nice flavours after decanting of raspberries and other juicy berries, plus light pepperiness. And no earthy/woodiness!
Finish: Medium-plus length finishing with tart fruit flavours, plus woody, earthiness, some bitterness and light tannins. The woody / earthiness disappeared after decanting, leaving the fruit, bitterness, and light tannins.
This wine really tasted odd upon first pouring and tasting, but then after a short decanting of a few hours the woody/earthy/dusty component of the wine disappeared and you were left with gorgeous fruit flavours! I was truly pleasantly shocked at the change in the wine. I 100% recommend decanting this wine before enjoying it.

with decanting. Domaine Artema Winery Gamay Village 2024 offers a striking electric fuchsia colour with plum and raspberry aromas that shift to more pronounced juicy berries after decanting. The palate is dry and lean with tart plums, raspberries, cherries, and light tannins, and the earthy character drops away once the wine opens. The medium-plus finish highlights tart fruit and light tannins, with the woody note disappearing after decanting.
Quick Food Pairing
I tried these two wines together with Chinese bbq pork and duck, roasted pork belly, and a stir fried flat noodle dish (beef chow fun). These two wines worked brilliantly with these dishes. They were all complementary. The acidity in the wines, plus red fruit flavours and low tannins meshed with these Asian dishes. Both are recommended.
