Bordertown Vineyards and Estate Winery was established in May 2015, but Mohan Gill and his family had already over 20 years of experience as growers, supplying some of Osoyoos’ best fruit to a select few wineries and winemakers. Bordertown wines uses 100% estate grown fruit for their wines. I received a selection of their wines to review for you.
I decided to start with a couple of white wines as we are still enjoying summer; Bordertown Vineyards & Estate Winery Grüner Veltliner 2023 and Pinot Gris 2023. Let me tell you about them.
My Wine Tasting Notes
Bordertown Vineyards & Estate Winery Grüner Veltliner 2023 (BC $22)
Appearance: A bright, clear, medium-plus to deep lemon colour.
Nose: Light aromas of white flower, peach and a touch of petrol. The aromas are a tad stronger after decanting.
Palate: It is dry, medium-plus body with a smooth, soft, thicker mouthfeel. Low acidity. Light flavours of peach, a touch of pineapple and some stoniness. Light pepperiness toward the finish. The acidity bumps up to medium after decanting, while the fruit flavours stay at the same intensity.
Finish: A medium-plus length with a tart finish, hints of peach, stoniness, honey, and pepperiness. No change to the finish after decanting.
This wine has light fruit flavours and I get more texture and pepperiness. No need to decant as there is not much change.
Rating:

The Bordertown Vineyards & Estate Winery Grüner Veltliner 2023 shows a bright, lemon-gold hue in the glass. On the nose, delicate floral notes mingle with peach and a hint of petrol, gaining a touch more intensity with decanting. The palate is smooth and softly textured, offering restrained peach and pineapple flavours with stony minerality and a peppery lift toward the finish. While acidity is initially low, it rises slightly after decanting, leading to a medium-plus length finish with lingering stone fruit and spice.

Bordertown Vineyards & Estate Winery Pinot Gris 2023 (BC $22)
Appearance: This wine has a clear, bright, medium intensity mix of straw and lemon colours.
Nose: Medium-plus intensity aromas of juicy, ripe stone fruit which transitions to tropical fruit, plus a touch of grape stem. Same flavours and intensity after decanting with the addition of honey.
Palate: This wine is dry, medium-plus body, with a smooth, soft mouthfeel. Almost mouth filling. Stone fruit, peach i particular, plus a touch of pineapple and some pepperiness. You also get a bit of acidic prickle on your tongue. Add some grape stem to the palate after decanting.
Finish: A medium-plus to long length, finishing with a mix of pineapple and stone fruit flavours and stronger pepperiness. No change to the finish after decanting.
A solid, fuller-bodied Pinot Gris. Fruity to the finish. No need to decant.

The Bordertown Vineyards & Estate Winery Pinot Gris 2023 presents a clear, straw-to-lemon hue and opens with inviting medium-plus aromas of ripe stone fruit that evolve into tropical notes, joined by a hint of grape stem and honey after decanting. The palate is dry and nearly mouth-filling, offering plush stone fruit, especially peach, alongside a touch of pineapple and subtle pepperiness, balanced by medium-plus body and a light acidic prickle. Decanting brings a light grape stem note but doesn’t alter the wine’s expressive fruit profile. It finishes with medium-plus to long length, keeping its fruit core and pepperiness.
