We all deserve R&R on a long weekend. On BC Day, my R&R was a bottle of Narrative Rosé 2022 and a bottle of free form Riesling 2022 by Okanagan Crush Pad. These two wines made for this hot sunny weather. Both are vegan-friendly wines and the Riesling is also listed as EcoCert organic certified. Let me tell you about them.
My Wine Tasting Notes
Narrative Rosé 2022 (BC $23.99)
The grapes for this wine are not listed but are described as a Bordeaux blend, so I would guess Cabernet Franc, Merlot and maybe Malbec to a minor degree.
Appearance: A medium-intensity clear salmon colour in the glass.
Nose: Lighter aromas of red fruit, rhubarb and some grape stem toastiness. No change to the aromas after decanting.
Palate: This wine starts dry with a medium body. It has a round, thicker creamy texture. Medium acidity in this wine leaves a light prickle in your mouth. Medium-intensity sweet and tart red fruit, raspberries, light rhubarb and light grape stem bitterness. Medium-minus intensity tannins. The wine has a lighter mouthfeel and tastes a bit off-dry after decanting. I also picked up some stoniness on the palate.
Finish: A medium-plus length with an off-dry finish showing red fruit, rhubarb and some bitterness. No change to the finish after decanting.
Rating: A lighter-bodied slightly off-dry rosé wine with red fruit and rhubarb aromas and flavour and a creamy texture. Medium-plus length.
free form Riesling 2022 (BC $34.99)
From the winery, this wine is… “Made from certified organic Riesling grapes that were planted in 2015 at Garnet Valley Ranch. The grapes were whole bunch pressed and fermented in stainless tanks using natural yeast.”
Appearance: This wine has a clear, bright, medium-intensity lemon colour.
Nose: Medium-intensity aromas of citrus and petrol with some apricots, grape stem, and white flowers mixed in behind. No change to the aromas after decanting.
Palate: Dry with medium body and pronounced apricot, lime and citrus rind fruit flavours. High acidity makes this wine feel lean to start but as it lessens it has a smooth, round mouthfeel. Medium-intensity petrol flavour in addition to the fruit flavours. Maybe also a hint of stony minerality. The wine has a slightly lighter body after decanting.
Finish: A long length, finishing with tart citrus, limes in particular, and a touch of stone fruits. No change to the finish after decanting.
A bracing wine with a ton of fruit and acidity. Decanting softens the acidity of this wine a bit, which you may prefer. I think that this wine would be very interesting to age and taste over time. Buy a few bottles.
Rating: This Riesling has aromas of citrus and petrol with some apricots, grape stem, and white flowers. It is a dry wine, medium body with pronounced apricot, lime and citrus rind fruit flavours. High acidity. Long length.
