Sparkling wine is made in both the northern and southern hemispheres, but the ones made in the southern hemisphere may be a bit more special. The grapes for sparkling wines are harvested around Valentine’s Day, so maybe there is more love in those wines? I have a bottle of sparkling Jansz Tasmania Premium Rosé to taste for you made with 85% Pinot Noir and 15% Chardonnay grapes. Valentine’s Day has passed, but maybe this wine is one you may consider for a birthday or an anniversary. This is a vegan-friendly wine and is made sustainably.
I did taste this wine over two days as I did not have my regular group of sparkling wine friends to share this bottle with. If you have a sparkling wine closure like the one in this picture, you can keep the bubbles in the bottle for a few days.
My Wine Tasting Notes
Jansz Tasmania Premium Rosé, NV (BC $44.99)
Winery notes, “Hand-picking, gentle whole bunch pressing, cool fermentation, 100% malolactic fermentation, complex assemblage and extended ageing on lees after bottle fermentation, all combine to produce a stylish and complex wine. To maximise blending options and complexity in the final wine, batches are kept separate during winemaking. Released with three months of bottle age.” The special label artwork was done in collaboration with Tasmanian artist Daniel Gray-Barnett.
Appearance: A clear, medium-intensity peach skin colour. Lots of tiny bubbles coming from the bottom of the glass after pouring.
Nose: Medium-intensity aromas of strawberries and ripe stone fruits. the wine had a touch of toastiness the next day.
Palate: Dry, medium body, with a round mouthfeel. There is a mouthfilling mix of creamy and biting tiny bubbles. Medium-plus acidity and light tannins. Mostly strawberries on the palate, along with stone fruits, and touches of red cherries, floral, and oak. The next day the bubbles were creamier and the wine softer and had a less acidic feel. There was also a touch of pepperiness and the strawberry flavour more pronounced.
Finish: Medium-plus length finishing with light, drying tannins. Strawberry flavour with touches of oak, cherry and floral on the finish. Similarly, on the finish the next day, there was more strawberry flavour and a touch of pepperiness.
The winery recommends pairing this wine with “smoked salmon blini and crème fraîche or poached quince tart.” It sounds like delicious pairings to me.
Rating: A bright, fresh sparkling wine from Jansz Tasmania. It has a pretty peach skin colour. Medium-intensity aromas of strawberries and ripe stone fruits. It is dry with a medium body and round mouthfeel. A persistent mix of creamy and biting tiny bubbles that fill your mouth. Mainly strawberries on the palate along with some stone fruits, red cherries, floral, and oak. Medium-plus length.
