Two Expressive BC Wines To Entice Your PalatePR SAMPLE

Today I decided to pull two bottles that I received from two different wineries.  Not because they were the same grape variety or style, but because I enjoy the wines from these wineries and I was interested to taste these two wines.  Sauvignon Blanc is a refreshing white wine with bright acidity.  Rosé wines as well can also be, but have an additional layer of red fruit flavours and a touch of tannic structure.  I enjoyed opening these two wines and even though it is no longer summer, you can enjoy these wines now and then when the rains come on a daily basis at home with a nice assortment of cheese.  I present to you Blue Mountain Vineyard and Cellars Estate Cuvée Sauvignon Blanc 2022 and Hester Creek Estate Winery Cabernet Franc Rosé 2022.

My Wine Tasting Notes

Blue Mountain Vineyard and Cellars Estate Cuvée Sauvignon Blanc 2022 (BC $25.90)

Appearance: A bright clear pale lemon-green colour.
Nose: Lighter aromas of orange, lemon and ripe stone fruits.  I also picked up some grape stems and light toastiness. Bump the aromatic intensity up to medium and add pine needle scents after decanting.
Palate: This wine is dry, with a medium body and a smooth lean mouthfeel.  Medium-plus flavour intensity of citrus, ripe stone fruits, a touch of toast and prominent minerality.  A wine with acidic tension.  The wine becomes rounder with decanting, more stone fruit and citrus flavours and less toast and grape stem.
Finish: A medium-plus length finishing dry with citrus, pith, grape stem and a touch of peach.  A light mouthfeel on the finish. Same finish after decanting.

No need to decant this wine.  It is nice as-is, but it becomes fuller and rounder with decanting.

Rating: 4.5 stars5 stars A Sauvignon Blanc with style.  Lighter citrus and ripe stone fruit aromas.  Dry with a medium body and lean mouthfeel.  Medium-plus flavours of citrus and ripe stone fruits, plus a touch of toast and prominent minerality.  Medium-plus length.

Hester Creek Estate Winery Cabernet Franc Rosé 2022 (BC $19.99)

Appearance: A deep, clear red cherry colour in the glass.
Nose: Medium intensity, exciting aromas of rhubarb and candied cherries followed by herbaceous aromas that get stronger as you swirl the wine.  There are also red cherries and raspberry aromas to a lesser degree. No change to the aromas after decanting.
Palate: Off-dry with a thick, round, smooth, viscous mouthfeel.  The wine leaves a light acidic prickle on your tongue.  Rhubarb, red fruit and candied red fruit, as well as a touch of grape stem on the palate.  Flavours persist after decanting.
Finish: Medium-plus length finishing off-dry with rhubarb, red fruit and candied red fruit flavours. Also a touch of pepperiness. Acidic prickle to the finish. No change to the finish after decanting.

Enjoy this off-dry rosé wine at your leisure.

Rating: 4 stars An easy-to-sip, off-dry rosé wine that has rhubarb, candied cherries and herbaceous aromas. A round, thicker mouthfeel but offers a light acidic prickle on your tongue. Rhubarb, red fruit and candied red fruit on the palate.  Medium-plus length.

Roast Pork Belly and Wine?

I decided to cook pork belly bites in my air fryer and try it with these two wines as I thought that they would make a good pairing.  I was correct.  The citrus and acidity of the Sauvignon Blanc and the sweetness and red fruit flavours of the rose wine were complimentary to the fattiness and savouriness of the roast pork.  Give it a try.
