The Medoc in Bordeaux and 8 appellation bottles flight of wine

The history of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon is deeply intertwined with the evolution of the wine world. Cabernet Franc, the older of the two, has ancient origins tracing back to the Bordeaux region of France, where it played a crucial role in the development of classic Bordeaux blends.  Its contribution to Bordeaux blends eventually led to the emergence of its descendant, Cabernet Sauvignon.

Cabernet Sauvignon, a natural cross between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc, emerged in the 17th century.  The grape’s robust character and ability to thrive in diverse climates saw it spread across the globe.  This grape even further solidified its position in Bordeaux’s renowned châteaux, contributing to the creation of powerful “left bank” blends.

Today, both Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon stand as pillars of the wine industry, celebrated for their distinctive flavours, aromas, and versatility. Their histories reflect the intricate interplay between tradition and innovation that has shaped the world of winemaking into what it is today.
