Two Chronos White Wines for the Summer

The sunny days of summer, and the heat, are here. Have you been enjoying any white BC wines lately? I have two wines to present to you today from the TIME Family of Wines in Penticton. I have their Chronos Pinot Gris 2022 and Chronos Sauvignon Blanc 2022. These wines are meant to be enjoyed now in the sun with ceviche.  Don’t let it pass you buy.  Now, let me tell you about these wines.

My Wine Tasting Notes

Chronos Pinot Gris 2022 (BC $24.99 price listed for 2021 vintage)

From the winery, “Hand harvested, hand sorted. This Pinot Gris comes from a small vineyard in Summerland overlooking the lake. The grapes were whole bunch pressed and then cool fermented with the wine staying on lees post ferment for 3 months to enhance the mouthfeel.”

Appearance: A clear, bright medium-intensity lemon colour.
Nose: Lighter fresh aromas of melon and lemon. Same aroma intensity after decanting.  You can add some toastiness and honey aromas.
Palate: Slightly off-dry taste, medium-plus body and flavour intensity. A round mouthfeel with a light acidic prickle to start that smoothes out toward the finish. Light peach flavour plus stony minerality and a touch of honey at the end. Add stem or toastiness with decanting.
Finish: Medium-plus length with light tart stone fruit flavours. A touch of pepperiness and stoniness after decanting.

The only difference between decanted and undecanted is the toasty component.  Choose which you prefer.

Rating: 4 stars4.5 stars Lighter, fresh aromas of lemon and melon.  Slightly off-dry with light acidity.  Light peach flavour along with some stony minerality and a touch of honey.  Medium-plus length.

Chronos Sauvignon Blanc 2022 (BC $29.99)

From the winery, “Hand harvested and hand sorted. This Sauvignon Blanc comes from a vineyard between Penticton and Okanagan Falls. The highest yield we have seen off this vineyard to date showcasing what the site is capable of with bright acidity deeply flavoured bunches of grapes. Whole bunch pressed followed by a slow cool ferment then straight to bottle to hold onto every bit of aromatics.”

Appearance: A medium-intensity bright lemon-green coloured wine.
Nose: Medium-intensity aromas of honey and citrus with a touch of green apple, herbal, and ripe peach. No change to aromas after decanting.
Palate: Dryish, with medium-plus body and flavour intensity. It has a light acidic prickle and light round mouthfeel. Peach, honeyed stone fruit flavours with a touch of citrus behind. As this wine opens with time in the glass you also get pineapple flavour. With decanting, I pick up a touch of floral, more sweet stone fruit flavour and a touch of apple toward the finish.
Finish: A medium-plus finish with lingering stone fruit, honey and pineapple, plus a touch of pepperiness at the very end. Add floral to the finish and a more off-dry finish after decanting.

It is tough to decide if I prefer the undecanted or decanted.  It depends if you like a touch of floral on the palate.

Rating: 4.5 stars A wine with a mix of honey, citrus and herbal on the nose.  Dryish, with rich ripe honeyed stone fruit flavour and a light acidic prickle.  Medium-plus length.
