Mayhem Sparkling Wines in a Can on Canada Day

On Canada Day, I was trying to drink red and white wine, to match the colours of our flag. But opening two bottles of wine for that is excessive. The solution is to open two cans of wine. Canned wine for “Can”ada Day.  There are so many canned wines now and they come in a perfect sippable size of 250ml. The two canned wines I opened were the Mayhem Wines Sparkling White and Mayhem Wines Sparkling Rosé, both 2022 vintages. The Sparkling White is made from 100% Chardonnay grapes and the Sparkling Rosé from 100% Merlot grapes. Let me tell you about these wines.

My Wine Tasting Notes

Mayhem Wines Sparkling White 2022 (BC $88.32 for a 12-pack from the winery)

Appearance: Medium intensity, bright lemon colour.  Bigger bubbles in the glass.
Nose: Medium-intensity aromas of citrus, oranges, and honey.  Sweet scents.
Palate: Dry with a medium-plus body and flavour intensity.  Round mouthfeel.  Larger creamy and biting bubbles.  Higher acidity.  Citrus with a touch of peach and grape stem flavours, but then with some time in the glass you get apples, rose petals, orange, and lychee.  Quite a change!  Plus the bubbles get smaller and more creamy.
Finish: A medium-plus length finishing with citrus and citrus rind, some bitterness, then you can add peach and apple with some time in the glass.

This is quite an interesting wine with the flavours changing in the glass over a short time.  As the wine stays in the glass it tastes similar to a Viognier.  Really quite tasty.

Mayhem Wines Sparkling Rosé 2022 (BC $88.32 for a 12-pack from the winery)

Appearance: A medium-plus intensity clear salmon colour.  Bigger-sized bubbles in the glass.
Nose: Very light aromas of red fruits, strawberries in particular.
Palate: Dry, medium-plus body and flavour intensity with a thick round mouthfeel.  Bigger-sized biting bubbles.  A mix of red fruit, strawberries, red cherries, strawberry leaf and some grape stem bitterness on the palate.
Finish: Medium-plus length finishing with red fruit, red cherries and some bitterness.

A straightforward sparkling rosé to open and enjoy with a plate of assorted cheeses on your patio this summer.
