My Wine Tasting Notes
Seaside Pearl Lover’s Lane Merlot 2020 (BC $39)
Why is Lover’s Lane on the label? According to the winery, “The Old Yale Road is a historic early wagon road that serviced the Fraser Valley. Today, Yale Road running east is a heritage site called the “Old Yale Wagon Road.” Known fondly by locals as “Lovers Lane,” lovers of all ages meet and take romantic walks along Old Yale Wagon Road. Seaside Pearl’s Lovers’ Lane Cabernet Sauvignon is sure to impress your sweetheart.”
Appearance: A clear, medium plus garnet colour. About 75% opaque.
Nose: Medium-intensity aromas of juicy berries, plums, black fruits, sweet spices, and oak. Not much change to the aromas after decanting. Cinnamon spice is more prominent plus some toastiness.
Palate: Dry, light mouthfeel, soft, round and silky on the palate. Juicy blackberries, plums, red cherries, candied red cherries, and a touch of floral, sweet spices, chocolate and integrated oak. Light intensity finessed tannins. The only change I noticed after decanting was no chocolate flavour.
Finish: Medium length finishing with a light mouthfeel. Red cherries, berries, candied red cherries, with touches of pepperiness and floral, and light tannins. A longer finish with firmer tannins after decanting..
This wine tastes excellent just poured from the opened bottle and changes very little with decanting, so open and enjoy at your leisure.
Rating: – A wine with a light touch full of delicious juicy berries, plums and sweet spices aromas and flavours. Medium length.
