Birdie from Traynor Vineyard and grapecrush.wine in Ontario

It’s been a hot minute since I posted about an Ontario wine – so here I am, posting a very unique one for my comeback!

This wine was a collaboration between Traynor Vineyard and @grapecrush.wine (Instagram) and it’s name is Birdie, the beautiful label created by artist, @jennkitagawa (Instagram).

Now I already said this was a unique wine but what makes it unique? Let’s start with the blend of grapes – it features 73% Vidal juice, 25% Cab Franc and 2% Merlot skin. It’s also unfiltered and bottled with its lees (dead yeast cells) so it pours out in a very pretty hazy pale ruby color. Yup, you read that right – intrigued yet??

On the nose, I got crunchy cherries and cranberries, some orange peel and potpourri along with just the right amount of funk.

On the palate, this was a thirst quencher, fizzy and refreshing, the funk carries thru to the palate but it’s a super easy one to sip – it says “glou glou” on the bottle for a reason.

Rating: 3.5 stars

Do you have a go-to natural wine you’d recommend?

they don’t sell this one anymore – but a comparable one is available at the winery. The comparable one is called “breakfast at the vineyard: glou glou” and it’s ON $17.70 – here’s the link.
