Windrush Estate’s 2019 Jonathan Boyle Classic Cabernet Franc (ON $39.95 from the winery)
Happy Wine Wednesday friends. I’ve been craving a Cab Franc lately – now I don’t know if that’s @kristys_winetravels or @cabfrancchronicles’s doing – but whatever it was, I’m happy to say I obliged and opened up a beautiful local Cab Franc the other night.
Enter Windrush Estate’s 2019 Jonathan Boyle Classic Cabernet Franc. The grapes are from St. David’s Bench (Niagara) and Jonathan Boyle is the Chief Winemaker at Windrush.
On this beauty, I get notes of dried strawberries, violets, oregano, forest floor, black pepper, smoke and bark. It was light on the palate, but had a lengthy finish. Such a beautiful and delicate style of Cab Franc.
And while there are so many foods I could think of to go with this (ie. roasted root veggies, mushroom risotto, etc), I opted for a more unusual pairing. A Harry Potter movie marathon. Not gonna lie, all those earthy notes in the wine paired perfectly with the darker moments in the movies.
When was the last time you enjoyed a Cab Franc?
