Quick Review: Singletree Winery Farmhand 2020

Do you like flavourful white wines? Well this one, Singletree Farmhand 2020, has it in spades. I think it would be a fun wine to have with a cooked ham for Thanksgiving 2021 as well. It is a blend of 80% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Viognier. I think the Viognier was really ripe at the time of harvest and really makes this wine extra flavourful.

Singletree Farmhand 2020 ($20.75)

According to the winery, this wine was, “Dry white cool-fermented in stainless steel. Aromas of peach, stone fruit and caramel with flavours of grapefruit, lemon and honey. Cool fermenting in stainless steel tank keeps the fruit bright, then ageing in French oak for three months gives a nice round finish.”

Appearance: Medium-plus lemon.
Nose: Medium intensity mix of citrus and green fruit aromas. With decanting the citrus aroma was more on the lime side, plus I detected crisp apple.
Palate: This wine has so much flavour and the flavours change quite quickly with swirling. It is dry with high acidity but is still very smooth and round, with a thicker mouthfeel. Pronounced flavours of stone fruits, citrus, grapefruit, toffee and bourbon vanilla. With a bit of swirling, you can add ripe tropical fruits, pears, sweet spices, and with a bit more swirling you also get apple flavours. This was became smoother and less acidity with decanting plus crab apple, stone fruits, in particular peach, crab apple, lime and the bourbon vanilla flavours.
Finish: Medium-plus length finishing with peaches, toffee and some drying tannins. When the apple flavours show up on the palate, they also show on the finish as crab apples. Less peach flavour with decanting, and more tart flavours.

Such an interesting fun blend. Just open and enjoy.

Rating: 3.5 stars4 stars A mix of citrus and green fruit aromas.  Dry, smooth, with a round, thicker mouthfeel.  Stone fruit, toffee, grapefruit and bourbon vanilla flavours.  Not complicated, just lots of flavours to enjoy.
