Say NO to Fall with Winemaker’s CUT Sauvignon Blanc and Rosé 2020

Winemaker's CUT Sauvignon Blanc and Rosé 2020

Winemaker's CUT Sauvignon Blanc and Rosé 2020

Let me tell you about two refreshing wines from Winemaker’s CUT in the south Okanagan.  I am tasting their Winemaker’s CUT Sauvignon Blanc and Rosé 2020, which will make you want to hold on to summer for a few more days.  Both wines are naturally vegan.  The Sauvignon Blanc has a touch of Slovakian oak while the Rose is 100% stainless steel ferment.  The Rose is a blend of Cabernet Franc and Syrah.  In case you are making a trip to the Okanagan, besides the winery, you can go to their other tasting room in the new District Wine Village in Oliver.

My Wine Tasting Notes

Winemaker’s CUT Sauvignon Blanc 2020 (BC $24. Sold out at winery.)

The grapes come from their estate Deadman Lake Vineyard.  25% Slovakian oak and 75% stainless steel fermented. The fermentation uses wild and organic yeast,

Appearance: A bright medium, lemon-green colour.
Nose: A pronounced nose upon opening bursting with floral, honeysuckle, honeycomb, lemon and a hint of peach.  With swirling you also get a touch of herbaceousness and lime skin. Very nice aromas. With decanting you still get the lemon and lime, the floral becomes lighter, you get the hint of peach, but lose the honey and herbaceous notes.
Palate: Dry, soft and round with a light mouthfeel.  There is a light acidic prickle that adds texture, plus a hint of oak.  Peach, citrus, green fruit and apple flavours, but with some air you can add some lime, herbaceousness (basil and spearmint) and delicious apricot.  The wine still is dry, soft and round, but the fruit flavours are maybe a bit more tart.  I picked up some minerality and lost the apple flavour.
Finish: A medium length finishing with light intensity citrus rind, some pepperiness and steeliness.

You can give this wine a very short decant, 30 minutes, but enjoy it soon to get the widest range of aromas and flavours.

Rating: A very elegant and pretty wine.  Inviting aromas of floral, honeysuckle and peach.  Dry, soft and round with a light acidic prickle texture.  Light intensity flavours of citrus peach, apple, and apricot.

Winemaker’s CUT Sauvignon Blanc and Rosé 2020 with wines in glasses

Winemaker’s CUT Rosé 2020 (BC $24. Sold out at winery.)

The grapes come from their estate Deadman Lake Vineyard.  A blend of 60% Cabernet Franc and 40% Syrah.  The grapes were fermented with 100% stainless steel using wild and organic yeasts.

Appearance: A medium intensity bright ripe peach skin colour.
Nose: A medium intensity nose with a blend of peach, strawberries and grape stem, then a touch of honey with air. Same aromas with decanting.
Palate: Dry and round with a thicker mouthfeel and higher acidity that leaves a prickle on your tongue.  Strawberries primarily plus other red fruits, a touch of peach and some grape stem tannins.  This wine has a nice stoniness to it. There is some honey on the mid-palate with air. About the same with decanting.  You lose the honey component and the wine is a little less stony.
Finish: A medium length finishing with strawberry flavour and light drying tannins that you feel at the back of your throat.

No decant, just open and enjoy.

Rating: no decanting. Medium intensity aromas of peach, strawberries and grape stem. Dry with a round, thicker mouthfeel and higher acidity that leaves an acidic prickle in your mouth. Strawberries and light peach flavours.  Stoniness on the mid-palate.  Light drying tannins and strawberries on the finish.

Have a nice salad or lightly cooked seafood with these two wines.

Where Can I Buy These Wines?

As I noted above both wines are sold out at the winery. Luckily both wines are available at the Swirl Wine Store.  The Rosé is available at the Vancouver Everything Wine store.  The wines may be available at other private wine shops, but you need to ask.
