My Wine Tasting Notes
Mayhem Wines Merlot Cabernet Franc 2018 (BC $21.74)
Appearance: Clear, medium intensity garnet.
Nose: Medium intensity aromas mixing blackberries and brambleberries, smokiness, tarriness, and oak. I gave this wine a short, 1hr, decant and the aromas stayed the same.
Palate: Dry with a light, lean mouthfeel. The wine does get a touch of roundness with swirling. Very light intensity fine-grained tannins. Medium acidity. Flavours of raspberries and brambleberries, plus touches of smoke and oak. And with swirling you get hints of floral and red cherries on the palate. With decanting the wine was rounder, had stronger tannins, and an increased cherry flavour.
Finish: A medium-length finishing with mouthwatering acidity. No tannins to mention. A light finish with tart berries and some pepperiness.
Rating: A medium intensity nose with a mix of blackberries and brambleberries, smokiness, some tarriness and oak aromas. Dry with a light lean mouthfeel that gets rounder with air. Bright raspberries and brambleberries flavours plus a touch of smokiness oak, floral, and red cherries. Light tannins. Peppery toward the finish.
I think that this will be a versatile wine for all meats and possibly fish as well. Thank you to Mayhem Wines for providing this bottle to review.
