Buy Poplar Grove Lakeview Rosé 2020 to Help the BCHF and Enjoy With BBQ

Do you think that a Rose wine can pair with BBQ pork ribs, cornbread, and slaw? I put the Poplar Grove Lakeview Rosé 2020 to the test. It is a blend of 81% Merlot and 19% Malbec made in the Saignee method. As a reminder from my previous post, $2.50 from the sale of each bottle ($30 per case) will be donated to the BC Hospitality Foundation (BCHF). Only 300 cases of the Poplar Grove 2020 Lakeview Rosé are made and will be released on June 15th, 2021.

My Wine Tasting Notes

Poplar Grove Lakeview Rosé 2020 ($30.35)

Appearance: A medium intensity bright reddish peach colour.
Nose: A medium intensity nose with fresh sweet strawberries and rhubarb.
Palate: Dry, medium-plus body, lean with medium acidic prickle on your tongue. Primarily strawberries with lesser amounts of rhubarb, grapefruit, and a touch of tropical fruit and minerality as well. Some leafiness, bitterness, and pepperiness on the mid-palate to the finish.
Finish: A medium-plus length finishing with strawberries and rhubarb, light pepperiness, and some bitterness.

The things I noticed different when I decanted the wine is that it had a little rounder mouthfeel, the fruit was a little tarter and there was less tropical fruit, but it is still a very enjoyable wine.  So you can enjoy the wine upon opening or the next day if you have a few pours left.

Rating: 4 stars Fresh strawberry and rhubarb aromas and flavours.  Dry with a medium acidic prickle on your tongue.  You also get some grapefruit and tropical fruit flavours from this wine, plus touches of leafiness, bitterness and pepperiness from the mid-palate to the finish.

How was the Pairing?

It was excellent. The pork bbq had a sweet and smoky sauce. This sauce meshed nicely with the strawberries and acidity of the wine. Very complimentary. The cornbread has sweetness and again the strawberries and acidity in the wine complimented it. Even the slaw worked, with its creaminess and the wine’s acidity balancing each other.

It’s summer. BBQ time. Buy a bottle of Poplar Grove Lakeview Rosé 2020 to enjoy and help the BC Hospitality Foundation!
