While we may want to go big on Valentine’s Day this year for our significant other, COVID still lurks and most of us are not yet vaccinated. Maybe you would consider ordering dishes from your favourite restaurant and enjoying it at home with some tasty BC wines?
Various foods, for their texture, scent, colour, shape and/or taste has an effect on us all to some degree. Various wines, from sweet to sparkling and all variations in between have also been known to work their magic on us. Foods such as asparagus, oysters, salmon, truffles, mushrooms, chocolate, and strawberries are a few traditional foods related to Valentine’s Day.
A few dishes that you may want to consider for Valentine’s Day dinner are:
Fresh Kushi Oysters with cucumber and lime granita
Miso Marinated Local Sablefish with crushed sunchokes and grilled asparagus
Mixed Mushroom and Truffle Risotto with pea tendrils and shaved parmesan cheese
Roasted Striplion with sauteed broccoli rabe, creamy polenta and black mission fig jus
Grand Cru Chocolate Torte with peanut butter mousse, honey nut crisp and raspberry coulis
Roséwines, Pinot Noir, and sparkling wines are popular choices for wines for Valentine’s Day, but don’t feel restricted. If you and your significant other love Merlot or Chenin Blanc, go with those wines. I’ve listed a few BC wines that I would think would pair well with Valentine themed dishes, such as:
