I feel good about enjoying these two wines by Sea Change, which come from France. Sea Change use renewable plant-based closures (corks) and the paper for the labels coming from certified sustainable forests and made partially from grape waste. I am not sure where their corks are made but I do see a company called NOMACORC that does make plant-based closures. Sea Change’s labels show their concerns. In this case they are showing the issues with plastics being dumped in the oceans, which can then be ingested by whales or other sea creatures.
When you buy a bottle of these wines, Sea Change makes a donation to marine charities. One of the charities they work with is Ocean Wise, which works here in BC. Sea Change is based in the UK. They do not make the wines, but get other wineries to make the wines for them. These two wines are made by Château Canet in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of southern France for Sea Change and are suitable for vegans.
My Tasting Notes
Sea Change Sauvignon Blanc Pays D’Oc 2018 (BC $18.49) – This wine has a medium minus intensity bright lemon colour. A medium intensity nose with citrus, lemon skin, and jalapeno pepper aromas, with a hint of peach. It really opens up with air; you you riper aromas of stone fruits plus honey, and less jalapeno pepper. The wine is dry, very smooth, thick and round with low acidity. It has restrained citrus and green fruit flavours. With decanting the wine also becomes more flavourful. It finishes with mouthwatering acidity and citrus flavours. An elegant wine.
Rating: – Decanting really opens up this wine. You get stone fruits, citrus and honey aromas. Medium intensity flavours of stone fruits and tropical fruits with decanting. If you don’t decant, the aromas and flavours will be more on the citrus and green fruit side. A very smooth wine.
Sea Change Rosé Pays D’Oc 2018 (BC $18.49) – made from the Syrah grape this wine is a light, bright peach colour in the glass. It has a light intensity nose with aromas mostly of strawberries with some light bramble leaf. It is dry, round and smooth with a thicker mouthfeel, but has sufficient acidity to keep this wine lively. Light fine tannins. Light strawberry and red fruit flavours.
Rating: A nice light Rosé wine. Dry with subtle strawberry and red fruit aromas and flavours. Smooth, with just enough acidity to keep this wine fresh.
