My last 2 wines from 50th Parallel Estate Winery in Lake Country are from the Pinot Noir grape. The first is their 2017 Pinot Noir and the other is their Blanc de Noir Methode Traditionnelle 2017 sparkling wine. With the COVID situation keeping us all at home, why not use some of your stored vacation money that you would have spent this summer on some great BC wines?
My Tasting Notes
50th Parallel Estate Winery Blanc de Noir Methode Traditionnelle 2017 (BC $85) – This wine has a light bright peach colour in the glass. A medium intensity nose showing lees, stone fruits, strawberries and with some air, rose petals. It is dry with a medium plus body and light, ethereal, creamy bubbles. Flavours of lees, stone fruits, and strawberries, and a hint of butterscotch. There is pronounced pepperiness which was quite unexpected but interesting to experience. I also did pick up some floral and apple with air. It has a medium length finishing with tart red fruit, pepperiness, some butterscotch and apple seeds.
50th Parallel Estate Winery Pinot Noir 2017 (BC $34) – Deep garnet in colour, about 90% opaque. This wine started off with some funkiness but with decanting the wine opened up wonderfully. I spoke to the winemaker about this, and there must have been something peculiar that had happened to my bottle, so my decanted notes here should be what you experience when you open up your bottle of this wine. It has a lighter intensity nose of tobacco, red fruit, sweet spices and some tea leaves. A nice nose. It is dry with a medium body and lower acidity. Smooth. Fairly fruity with red fruits, raspberries, red cherry and black currants. Lighter tannins. Finishes with red fruits, sweet spices and light pepperiness.
