I love Pinot Noir and was very excited to try the latest Pinot Noir from Okanagan Crush Pad. The grapes for this Pinot Noir, from Okanagan Crush Pad’s Haywire wine, come from the Secrest Mountain Vineyard in Oliver, BC. The grapes were fermented with native yeasts in large concrete wine tanks. Each lot of wine was aged separately and bottled unfiltered June 2019; and so has 1 year of bottle age. Let me tell you about it.
My Tasting Notes
Haywire Pinot Noir 2018 (BC $26.90) – A light very translucent garnet in colour. This wine has medium intensity aromas of smoky red berries, raspberries and leather, and a hint of floral with swirling. With decanting you get the same aromas but perhaps the raspberries are more prominent. This wine is dry with medium acidity, very light thin tannins and light astringent mouthfeel. You get a very tiny acidic prickle on your tongue, a touch of floral and some minerality. Light smoky red fruit and leather flavours primarily. The leather comes in at the mid palate. There is no major changes with decanting. It has a medium length finishing with tart red fruits, smokiness and leather.
Rating: – Light smoky red fruits on the nose and palate plus some leather. Light bodied.
