Osoyoos Larose I believe is the first BC winery that was formed in 1998 by a French company, Groupe Taillan of Bordeaux and Constellation Brands Canada together to create a world-class Canadian wine from classic red Bordeaux varietals. The Osoyoos Larose Le Grand Vin is their flagship wine built to age, but they also have this second tier wine, Pétales d’Osoyoos, which is more immediately approachable. I have enjoyed both their wines in the past and have been lucky to have received the Pétales d’Osoyoos 2015 to review for you.
The 2015 Pétales d’Osoyoos is a blend of Merlot: 76%, Cabernet Sauvignon: 11.5%, Cabernet Franc: 10.5%, Petit Verdot: 1% and Malbec: 1%. I think that when you sip this wine that you should be able to smell or taste most of the different components that each grape offers in the wine. For example cedar from the Cabernet Franc, or floral from the Petit Verdot.
My Review of Osoyoos Larose Pétales d’Osoyoos 2015 (BC $28.99)
This wine is almost a solid deep garnet in colour. It has an enticing, medium plus intensity nose with ripe sweet black fruit, blackberries, raspberries, vanilla, nutmeg, cedar, and a touch of capsicum aromas. The vanilla note feels like it floats above the fruit aromas.
It’s semi-round, smooth with a medium weight. Medium acidity and fine dusty tannins. It is quite plummy, along with raspberry, blackberries, black fruits, vanilla, a touch of floral and capsicum. With decanting the wine feel softer in your mouth, the capsicum is not noticeable, chocolate becomes more evident, and the floral component increases. The tannins that don’t get overly grippy. The wine finishes with dark chocolate, plums, black fruits, vanilla and some pepperiness. It also finishes with a light feeling in your mouth. Very nice. Top quality. You should be able to age this wine another 4-6 years.
Rating: – An elegant red Bordeaux blend from the Okanagan. It has a very inviting dark fruit, cedar and vanilla nose, leading to ripe black fruits, plums, raspberry and blackberry flavours. A nice fine tannic structure that is not overpowering and let’s the wine finish with a light mouthfeel.
How Do I Buy This Wine?
You may purchase the wine from the winery by signing up to be a Club Member, otherwise it is available through government and private liquor stores. Everything Wine, SAQ in Quebec and BC Liquor stores carry their wine. There may be other private stores as well. It is best to ask your local private store.
