Keeping in the theme of the 2018 vintage release, I recently posted on Instagram my review of Haywire‘s Baby Bub 2018, and promised a fuller review with rating here. And here it is!
The Haywire Baby Bub 2018 is 375ml so you and your significant other can easily drink this wine to start or finish an evening. This Charmat method sparkling wine is made with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes. It has a nice red rhubarb and wild rose petal colour. Youthful aromas of wild strawberries, sweet and sour red cherries, and hints of a rhubarb and red apple. There is some lees upon first pouring but it dissipates quickly. The wine is dry, medium-bodied, with small creamy bubble that has a light biting edge. The bubble fills your mouth and has a bit of waxiness to it. Overall above average intensity of flavours showing tart strawberries, crisp red apple, tart red fruit and a hint of bramble leaf on the palate. It finishes with mouth-watering acidity, Macintosh apple, tart red cherries and rhubarb, and some bramble. This wine is a bit more serious than just fun. Enjoy it with some goat or creamy cheese, fresh strawberries and raspberries, and maybe some seared scallops.
Rating: – This sparkling rose wine is all about the creamy biting bubble (texture) followed closely by the tart red fruit and McIntosh apple flavour.
