Every year around this time I start to look at past tasting notes and recent tastings here in Vancouver looking for a celebratory wine for Valentine’s Day. This year, I found a sparkling rose wine for you from Italy. The land of wine and love.
Cantina Beato Bartolomeo da Breganze Rosa di Sera Vino Spumante Extra Dry, NV, Italy ($18.49) – Made with 85 percent Glera (aka Prosecco) and 15 percent Marzemino grapes. I had not heard of the Marzemino grape before, and read that it is a red grape that comes from the Trentino area of Italy. I will have to look for a single varietal Marzemino bottle in the future to try. This sparkling wine is pale pink in colour and has a light strawberry nose. It is slightly off-dry, with flavours of red cherries, red fruits and strawberries. Medium acidity and creamy bubble. I think the lightness of the wine and the strawberry aroma and flavour, makes this a wonderful wine to share before dinner with some cheese and fresh fruit, or in a bathtub with candles.
You can buy this wine at BC Liquor stores. It is a general listing.
