Buying Wine
If you are in Vancouver and you would like to pick up some wines that are not in the BC Liquor Stores, you need to visit a private wine shop. One shop that I recommend is Marquis Wine Cellars, located at 1034 Davie Street, Vancouver, BC. They are open 11am-9pm daily.
Why do I like Marquis Wine Cellars?
For one I like the owner, John Clerides. He is very knowledgeable about wines from around the world and is easy to talk to about wine. He travels to wine regions to check out and source wines for us to enjoy. On my trip to France in June 2011, for example, I visited Domaine Huet in the Loire Valley and really loved their wines. I posted on the blog about this winery and I received a tweet from John that he carries their wines.
I also like Marquis Wine Cellars as John is active in Twitter. He engages people and finds out wines people like. Through this, I think that John can have a better idea of what wines to bring into his “cellar” for us. Here is a link to their online media web page so you can follow them on Facebook, Twitter, blog, etc.
Marquis Wine Cellars brings in special wine speakers, such as Allen Meadows, aka Burghound to educate us about wines from Burgundy, and teams up with other companies, such as Bentons Cheese to offer us a wine and cheese experience at their store. There are ongoing special event tastings. Here is a link to Marquis Wine Cellars Special Events and tastings page.
How to Buy Wine From Marquis Wine Cellars
Marquis Wine Cellars can bring the wine to you too. They do have a Vancouver area delivery on a one case minimum, so if you don’t want to, or cannot get downtown, check Marquis online wine database, place your order, and wait for your doorbell to ring. Also Marquis can ship wines within BC, so if you are in Campbell River or Terrace for example, and you would love to get a case of Domaine Huet 2005 Vouvray Pétillant Brut
for yourself, Marquis can organize that for you. Here is the link to Marquis Wine Delivery page.
