Hart House Celebrates BC Wine Icon with 50-Year Dinner

February 1, 2018 (Vancouver, BC) – On Friday, March 16, 2018, Hart House will host a very special dinner honouring one of BC’s foremost wine visionaries, Dr. Harry McWatters. Guests at the event will enjoy wines from three McWatters labels paired with a sumptuous four-course dinner.
It is no exaggeration to say that McWatters is a legend in the BC wine business. He started working in the industry in 1968, and over the years was involved in founding a number of important organizations, including the British Columbia Wine Institute, the British Columbia Wine Information Society, and the BC Hospitality Foundation charity. Perhaps his most significant contribution was his involvement in the founding of VQA Canada, which has had a profound impact on how wine is made and promoted in this province, as well as championing BC wines around the world. Throughout his career, McWatters has worked tirelessly to develop quality standards in wine growing, winemaking, and marketing.

Of course, McWatters is also known for his hands-on work in the business. He established the groundbreaking Sumac Ridge winery in 1980, as well as See Ya Later Ranch. He is currently the President & CEO of Encore Vineyards, and last August he marked his 50th vintage with the first crush at the new TIME Winery facility in Penticton. TheHart House event will feature a menu prepared by Hart House Chef Mike Genest, paired with wines from TIME, Evolve Cellars, and the McWatters Collection. McWatters, as guest of honour, will comment on the wines over the course of the evening.
